HD650 sounded clearly better imo.

After owning the 600 for more than two years, and the 650 for just over a year, I can easily say I prefer the 650. The new headband isn't as good, but the sound is a nice step in the right direction.

Compared to the 600, the 650 has more bass, but it is also more bloated IMO. To me, this makes the 650 sound less natural and like "the real thing." I prefer the natural sound of the 600.

Let me add one caveat to my choice: I only use the Senns with the Equinox cable. Stock cables need not apply, and will never see use in my system.

That bloated bass is also recording dependent;
i have recordings with clean bass and also recording where the hd650 tends to bload the bass a bit. Mostly this is because of the poor recording.

I heard the 600 and the 650 in a store and I did prefer the 600. Also reading through these sites I read, that the 600 is the more neutral sounding can.

Since I am coming from a modded 20 year old Beyerdynamic 990, I would call the 600 very warm sounding. I would not want a darker sounding can or a can that would have a stronger bass, which kinda "overpowers" the mids and highs.

Though I whished the 600 had a higher resolution, more like my old 990, but than - I bought the 600 for a more relaxed sound.

BTW, I have removed the foam pads on my 600 and added them on my DT990.

What kind of amp are you using??

I find the 650's to be very tight and punchy and also controlled on the low end. The detail through out far surpasses the 600's IMO.

I originally ordered a pair of 600's when replacing my 590's and when they came I was disappointed. I didn't think they were a $200+ improvement. I sent them back and got the 650's and I REALLY like!

Out of curiousity, are any of these comparisons blind?

Oh, I've heard neither.

Crazy pills user here too--I prefer the HD600. Although, if I had the money I'd own both. Sometimes it's nice to have the warmer, bassier sound of the HD650 depending on mood and synergy with music and equipment.

Comparing the HD600 to the HD650 can be tricky, though, especially if you're comparing them in a store since the stock HD650 and HD600 cables also have their own characteristic sound signatures. I find the stock HD650 cable to be a little less airy and energetic sounding than the stock HD600 cable, but, in exchange it offers are more detailed sound with better bass extension and control in the highs--I would never call the HD600 with HD650 cable bright but with the stock HD600 cable I most definately would. Most of the time I stick with the HD650 cable on my HD600 but slap on the HD600 cable when I want a more energetic sound.

Me? MS-2>HD600>HD650. The HD650's bass is just too overbearing IMO.

My opinion has been completely reversed

Opamp swaps make a huge difference...

I certainly do, either.
