yup 253 is your serial number

I've been allowed an extended custodianship of these RS1, so I'll have them to use until I find my own pair. White silk, white drivers, rounded notch on the gimbals.

Is this the serial number?

Nice to see this thread still going,I've been away for a while. Recently got some Sylvania gold label 408a's for my little dot+1 and my RS1i's are really liking them! Very similar to the the famous Western 408a's but with a more "syrupy tubey sound with the same soundstage and detail. Had my little dot for a while now and I'm looking to try something new, would have to be tubes though. I think Grado's can sound great with solid state as they benefit from the current, but it can make them a little hard sounding. For me the added soundstage and warmth that tubes give really compliments them.

I'd love to get my hands on a mint set of button RS1's... The look much better IMO.

would love to buy a pair of RS1s in the future, i'd probably buy them used to save money since grados last forever and the pads are easily replaceable.

i still haven't heard the rs1 tho, really want to tho after all the good things i hear from them. i currently own sr325is and have heard 60,80,125,225, rs2, and ps1000s before. i enjoyed the 325 and the ps1k the most out of these, the rs2 sounded great but where bright (weren't burnt in).

the RS1i sounded nearly identical to my vintage RS2's, a MUCH wider soundstage but the sound was nearly identical, a little more bass....and how should I put this. not sparkle...but the highend felt more alive without being even slightly sibilant. BUt take my impressions with a grain of sand, Try them out for your self.

thanks for your input, i will definitely save up for the RS1 now, i know people don't ever really consider them to be overly bright and me owning the 325is, i know people say they are bright, but i myself find them to be pretty smooth on the highs.

of course, my 325is where unbearable for the first 20 hours or so before burn-in, so its safe to assume the brightness of those RS2 i've heard was due to them being a brand new display model.

^  The RS1 has a sweet and slightly rich midrange--the more so with better recordings. I'm thinking I should probably put the HD600 back in its box, and wait till its replaced with an HD800. Since I got it, I always grab the RS1.

Checking in with my vintage :)

Rock on my fellow RS owners! The RS cans are legendary...

High-five from one vintage owner to another :)

So I have the cans hooked to a Schiit Asgard. Somehow I just love the synergy the Asgard has with the it. None of the other amps I used in the past gave me that kind of synergy I now enjoy with the Asgard. Funny how sometimes a cheap(er) solution does the trick.

DAC duties are handled by an Audio-GD Compass and transport's my trusty ol' Teac VRDS-10. I noticed from your sig you use an Audio-GD NFB-12. I was recently offered a used Audio-GD DAC-19 DSP and have been thinking really hard about taking the plunge but damn, $580!

Anyway, let's not turn this into an Audio-GD thread :)

Hey WhiteCrow hope you are still updating this thread, here are some more for ya, cheers.

This was my very first foray into the Grado Reference Series, a RS1i serial 7425, I regrettably ended up selling it on a whim and I miss it dearly ever since:

After that, I have acquired a new old stock buttoned RS1, serial 3505:

And a buttonless RS1, serial 6355:

Now, I also have a new RS1i heading my way, which I will post an update once I receive it here in Aussie land, I'm wondering which serial number is it going to be, from some other posts here I think grado is getting close to the 10,000 mark.

the RS1s i bought used finally came back from repairs (driver failed a day after buying).

im assuming they put RS1i drivers on them since they sound different.

i love them! after getting new pads/headband for them, basically a brand new pair of RS1i with RS1 button cups <3

its like the grado sound with a more warm sound signature. never bright! LOVE THEM!!
