Having owned these PS500s for a couple weeks now I have to say these are absolutely amazing. When I went searching for headphones, I wanted to buy what I thought sounded like the best headphones under $1000. I auditioned the HD700/800s and HE500s among many others. I have to say after returning to the store and trying those models out once again now that I own this pair, I definitely made the right decision. The 700/800s sound far too clinical, its like they were never intended to be used for listening to music in the first place. The HE500 sounds almost like it has that Sennheiser veil which I don't like.

Is there anyone out there that thinks the PS500s are the best headphones they've ever tried? I also listed to the PS1000s/GS1000s and vastly prefer the PS500s over them. So glad I went this route.

I'm happy for you, by prefering the PS500 to the GS/PS1000, you just save yourself a lot of money, i wish i could say the same.

The PS500 is indeed an excellent phone, but to call the HE-500 veiled sounds like you didn't spend enough time with them. The silver cable that ships with the HE-500 was lackluster for me. To my ears it was slightly harsh and veiled. When I swapped over to the stock HE-400 Canare cable on the HE-500, I was blown away with the warmth and clarity (with Lyr). Total difference in sound.

I do like my PS500 however, and D5K and Q701...........I like the option to try whatever I feel that day and like all my phones for different reasons.

I just put a pair of G-cushions on my PS500. Wow. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to listen to change the sound slightly to better render classical. I think switching between cushions makes the PS500 a very versatile set of headphones.

Man, that's what I found.  Still use 'em on my 325is.

Yeah, bigger soundstage, more comfy.

Good times!

I seriously doubt that a cable upgrade can make THAT much of a difference,  my experience with quality cables have resulted in subtle differences at best.

Ditto on that, no more ear pinching after an hour of listening, comfort is no longer an issue for me and I love the sound too, I have removed the buttons on the screens and had Grado upgrade me to the newer 8 conductor cable (Sr325i's anniversary gold versions) . I amp mine with an RS predator, a very musical pairing, very fun to listen to !

Having owned only low cost phones (10-20$) until I joined this board and got the Grado ps500, they are absolutely amazing I've heard things in my music I've never heard before just awesome. I would indeed recommend these headphones to anyone without hesitation. Now I'm looking for good dac was considering the asus xonar essence one muses edition it has good reviews without the big price tag.
