Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

Today I bought P1 drivers to fix my disastrous tunning on my Gradeze's R1.

I'll let you know when I put them in the Konstantino's design cups.

I quickly tested on my samsung to see if I had soldered well. How awful! The bass was sluggish, way too much bass, no treble and vocals like muffled.
I then tested with Audirvana on a PC and a small piece of USB DAC and my little O2 which was on the desk. OUF! The bass is tight but there is not too much, the midrange is the strong point of these speakers, and even if it goes high I do not have the sibilances that I had with the R1. Very nice work on these speakers.

Never an ounce of aggressiveness or greenness and they are not broken in. Diana Krall is sublime all the mouth sounds are very well reproduced. On the metal there are some projections on the medium but I do not prefer to go too far ... Between the not perfect recordings and the fact that they are not inked I avoid any criticism.
The bass deserves to be more "organic" and with more substance and presence, but I compare with my speakers and my hi-fi system which does not play in the same court, so once again let the P1s really break in.
It's a very nice start with these P1s. They look a bit warmer and less shiny than the R1s. What I reproached the R1 a bit.

i am actually a bit unsure, if the mesh is to tight for the P1. I have only listened for a few hrs by now. but it sounds like it needs more air...

Optically absolutly mine, but maybe i have to think about it.

Or i have to give the driver a bit time.

Colourfull, I like them a lot.

thank you. A bit diversity to my prefered "classical" colored headphones.

No, cause i haven´t got a good pair of L Cush here. Mine are old and crumble. i have to buy a new pair.
I only tested the two different BA Cushions i got, the shipibo ones, F-Cush and Yaxi Pads.

I'm afraid I'll have to think about a swap again, but i have to listen to them the next days...

The most builds here have a much wider mesh.

Have you tried L Cush?

They look beautiful...I love the yellow. I would advise L-Cush pads as well, before trying swapping out the mesh. The Graham Slee Voyager is a great piece of equipment isn't it? I still regret selling mine on years and years ago.

Yeah, it is really hard to resist Jin´s fabolous headbands. I had to do it, cause the colors match so well. Just wait for the next build for a friend (still no answer from jaco since 5th of february).

Like I wrote above, i only got seven years old crumbeling L-Cushions. Any advice for geniue ones or good third party L-Cushions?
I bought some pairs on eBay, AliExpress and i wouldn´t recommend to burn money. I got only faulty crap.

The GSP Voyager impressed me so much (John Cadman soldered it, very helpful gentleman). I absolutly love it every day. A pity that you sold yours.

I also keep an eye on the lindemann amp´s, but they´re quite expensive. But firstly i´ll try a step in entry tube amp´s, but i´m really new to this topic. Bottlehead Crack, DarkVoice 336SE, LittleDot MkII, Garage 1217(!?)....I don´t know...

I surely have listen to this actual build a bit more, especially with L-Cushions, maybe G-Cushions too. But i´m wondering about the mesh improvement for several drivers at all, a rule of thumb beside the used cups!?

First impressions?
Looks good, sounds absolutly better than the BA Hybrid Cushions!

Ok, now spending some time to test more with my playlists and CD's.

The R1/P1 drivers are designed for L-Cushions, so no surprise.
For what it's worth, not all Chinese L-Cushions sound the same, the foam density used varies.

HI all, what is the best way to secure the drivers so that they do not pop out of the cups. I had a pair of Grado Modded R1 Epsilon headphones made by fleababy but occasionally the drivers become loose. Is the guidance still to wrap some electrical tape around the outside of the driver and push them back in?

Is the guidance still to wrap some electrical tape around the outside of the driver and push them back in?

Tape could work. You want to make sure that the air seal in the cup is perfect. I used a thinly rolled snake of poster-tack (sticky-tack etc..). I pressed this into the line between the driver and the cup all the way around. The advantage of this is that it is super easy to remove and makes the driver easy to remove, too. If the gap is not big, this could be a good solution.
