Maybe it's just be but all this talk about sound quality is getting exhausting. There's a lot of good stuff out there. And then there's fit. Then there's acclimation. And then of course there's always something better.

For myself, that something better is currently not TWS, but the AKG N9 hybrid. They're the best sounding headphones I own right now, much better sounding than the px8. I think these will get me through the winter, hopefully to xMEMs Cypress in the springtime!

Had an opportunity to pick up the XM5’s for under $200 at Best Buy, sale plus BB coupons. I’m going to keep them on the shelf unopened and do some more searching for bargains. Btw; your BB coupons you collect for dropping money in the stores, have an expatriation date…. Use them or lose them…. 👍
I spend like 5k a year at BB. I never get coupons.

"Most" or "some"? Why didn't they just tune them right the first time. Peq for tws sounds exhausting. Kinda cool they offer it but that's hardly a mainstream feature.
To be fair, the “right tuning” is very personal, and different for each listener. For example I think I EQ every TWS I own, so by that measure I should think less of these TWS since they are not ideal out of the box :-) , but I don’t expect manufacturers to tune just to my tastes, and I want to have a range of options greater that just those that by chance suit me unmodified.

Whether EQ for TWS is exhausting is also going to depend on the TWS’ app and the individual’s tolerance for dealing with such things. For me I play with a TWS’ EQ when I first start listening and then make a few adjustments the first few listening sessions - after that I usually don’t think about it again.

But I’m not arguing with you since there’s no right or wrong perspective here - it’s all subjective.

This is a great thread and I have followed it for a number of years now, but the original tiltle of the thread asks a question.
The thread was started in 2017 and the question was was are we at a point where wireless is nearly as good as wired.

I would suggest that its a lot closer now than it was back in 2017 , but will it ever be as good? Some of you guys will have a lot more experience than I have with TWS.

I recently got the Beoplay EX as I wanted a stem type of TWS as I often find a seal difficult to get correct with an IEM. I am really pleased with them but yeah my Andromeda is still a bit ahead of them as they should be.

So if money was no object what TWS are the best or among the best at getting close to wired performance? I was surprised at the jump in performance from my CA Melomania Touch to the Beoplay EX, so I guess I am intrigued to know if things can get even better.

I have a problem

I've only heard Sennheiser Momentum 3, Sony wf-1000xm3 and Moondrop LittleWhite BT cable with Blessing 2: Dusk IEMs and most recently the Aviot TE-ZX1. I also have B&W PX8 and have heard Sonys, Boses and Sennheisers. The Aviots are actually a bit problematic because they're making me question everything I know about audio. They're better in a lot of ways than my wired HE1000 Stealth and Burson Playmate 2 DAC/amp. There's so much more texture and nuance in music through the Aviots that I've actually lost some of the enjoyment I used to get from the wired setup. I keep wondering if the HE1000 is just not what I genuinely like or maybe the Playmate 2 is the problem, I have no idea what direction I want to go in with audio because I paid 220€ for these WIRELESS earbuds that are much more enjoyable than the 2000€ setup I have on my desk. I know I'm not going to buy any more wireless gear unless Aviot releases a new flagship.

But audio is really subjective and some people might not enjoy the Aviots.

wait what speakers are these? and are they powered?
See below copied from a 2015 post. I do not think they are still made.

Another grand experiment from the company came in the form of a new loudspeaker design called the Noble ONE. The 3 way speaker is just a bit bigger than your usual bookshelf (67 lbs/side) and features a 8″ Scanspeak Revelator Woofer, 4.5″ Illuminator Tweeter and 1″ Illuminator Beryllium Tweeter. The USA-made loudspeakers will ship in custom-fitted Pelican cases to keep their finish looking its best. Aimed at the high end crowd, the ONE will retail for $16,995 and will be available by the time this text hits the interwebs. Tucked away in the corner of the atrium floor and roped off like the Mona Lisa on display the new loudspeaker wasn’t available for a listen just yet, but we will keep you updated with impressions as they become available.

I think some of the top-tier TWS have definitely made it an interesting discussion now. I brought out my Legend X and EXT to compare against the Pi8. I think if you dont have a reference point. Some of these offerings are end of the line but comparing the 3 IEMs. Its apparent, that TWS is quite a ways, away from TOTL type IEMs. The rest of that equation is up to the user. Cost vs performance ratio. is the 20 to maybe 40% difference in higher end wired offerings worth the splurge in price difference...
