I figure as long as people enjoy them that's good. I've met people short-term who wear them, and I never say anything obviously. However if for whatever reason someone engages in conversation where my headphone choice is questioned ("getting called out for not wearing beats") I will defend my headphone choice tactfully and politely, and I will win.

It's true that this thread sometimes turns from "getting called out for not wearing beats" to "calling out people wearing beats" and that's bad obviously. Discussion about beats in general is inevitable on this thread and I still find that interesting though, even if it sways towards beats-bashing, there is still truth to find in many such arguments (beats are a fashion statement, overprice, etc.)

Sometimes I do wish there was a way not to beats-bash, but enlighten people about other options. That is to say, I think most audiophiles here feel some desire to spread their niche knowledge given that quality headphones are becoming something the general population is turning their attention to. The problem here is this: Beats objectively are pretty bad for the price. Call this beats-bashing if you will, but it's true. The problem is spreading this reality to others tactfully. This endeavor is for the best intentions; give people (who actually are seeking audio quality rather than fashion accessories) a better audio experience, and for less money. The unfortunate part is that this reality to beats-owners is sad (because many of them wasted money, except for those who use them for fashion), and being the bearer of bad news is not encouraged or really appreciated or even trusted (if ignorance is easier than truth, often people will choose ignorance).

Some Most people just don't care enough. Can't be blamed though, as people have different interests. Personally I don't feel like I have enough knowledge to be qualified for arguing for this sort of stuff. Perhaps the problem at its roots isn't the lack of tact, but rather the lack of knowledge that is required to make a strong coherent argument, which then makes someone look like a total jerk and idiot when they offer a suggestion.

My arguments have been beat down so many times I don't even know what my opinions should be anymore or what knowledge I should take in. Would you call that ignorance?

Random rant about the Mixrs!

So I finally got to try out a pair of Mixrs. I must say, they look nice. Then it kind of ends there. The pads are stiff (the sides actually feel like cardboard) and plain uncomfortable and the pivoting joint is a bit shaky and not fluid at all. Oh, and the sound. Well, they're a bit more refined than the Solos, which isn't saying much, but the Mixrs sound so unbearably artificial that if it was made by any company other than Monster I'd be appalled. I mean if you don't pay much attention to the details, they're your typical V shaped headphone, but if you're a normal Head-Fier that listens to gear even when you don't intend to, you'll realize that the plasticity of any type of vocals makes the AKG K701's upper mids sound tonally accurate.

I was actually rather so appalled that I gave them back almost immediately. Sure, it's not a fair trial by any means, but it was just so saddening that I didn't want to use them much longer. It's a shame, since they look great. Oh, and as for the rest of the sound, the bass is boomy, but not as intrusive as one would expect from Monster. That's really all that's worth noting. The mids and treble, to me, were a disaster, especially once I reverted to my Audio Technica ATH-2, which has mids like ambrosia in comparison. I'll probably try them again sometime soon, but first impressions are very bleak.

I think the common argument that "Beats may turn people onto better audio" is a falsehood. Reading ANY positive review or negative review the "best of the best" AKA beats are all people will buy from then on out OR they will keep there MDR-V150.

Lol why does it have to be the V150? The problem with Beats is that the people who buy them don't particularly care about audio quality specifically; they just want to get the best that they think money can buy and be done with it.

This is basically the difference between wealth with taste and bling.

The ZX300 are the absolute most common here lately. In fact, I think a large portion of that sudden wave have previous beats ownership.

Now beats may not always turn people onto better audio, it leaves them more open to the idea of the purchase of an expensive headphone. People must have asked you why you would ever spend so much money on such expensive headphones ($100). The same people probably ended up getting beats ($200+). Whether that's actually going to be a good one or just another overselfglorified one is a different question.

@CC Lemon: I approve of those beets!

Because the V150 are cheep and available in your local impulse buy section of any store.

Go buy some dollar store earbuds and listen only to them for a day or two. Then switch to the Beats.

No but seriously....if u had the chance to receive free beats - would u try and be less harsh or?

Just a debate/discussion I'm trying to bring up here :)
I would try and mention u could get something better but would try and avoid saying it directly

Then only reason I would want free beats would be so that I could sell them to some sucker for "10% off retail price" so I could buy a better sounding set for so much less

Without the price tag I'm sure most fear they would actually like them.
The truth really is that with a $75 to $100 price tag EVERYONE would have them in their collection.

I just heard the Mixr's - and beats pro just by the side.

Mixr = forward mids, more punchy bass (due to smaller driver)
Pro = relaxed mids, less rolled off lows

Both are equally a rip off but the mixr's got me saying: "hey not bad!"
If it were me, the mixr's are better than the pros (based on 10min demo), even though they have recessed mids, they are more present than the pros

Both were equally displeasing on my ear (comfort) and the clamp on the mixr's is even stronger...

Great comparison...
Just wondering... You didn't feel anything off with the Mixr's treble? I personally think the Mixr's were the worst headphones monster came up with.
The treble was unbelievably screechy and almost painful..  Playing it with a friend's ipod with "6 foot 7 foot".. Was simply a night mare.
Perhaps I am too sensitive to treble...
