The fact is, a 1000 dollar HDMI cable will perform absolutely no differently than a 3 dollar one. Monster overprices all their goods, and yes, they make good analog cables. They also make good digital cables that are absolutely no better than those costs 10s to 100s of times less money because they're digital cables.

But, but, there's jitter and jutter and phasing and if my clock doesn't sync right then I'll lose bits everywhere. Then the world will end. :eek:

I'm glad there's Monoprice, for those of us who aren't mentally ill.

I never claimed that it is acceptable for Monster to conduct their business the way they do. And for that matter, it's not for any company. However, majority of the companies strive for such success. As I state again, the reason why monster is getting more heat is because of their high rate of success in sales of their marketing despite the fact that they overprice the living crap out of all their products.  Other companies simply aren't as notorious. Some probably don't want or need to be.. while others probably would like to, but simply won't be able to get away with it the way monster does/did.  Whether monster isn't respected here on headfi as a company, trust me that other companies do and are very much weary of them (this is a directly from the word of mouth of a sales rep).

Sorry, but I call B.S. on that one.  As I've stated in my previous 'WALL of TEXT', I've witnessed the difference myself. The trick is consistency. You can't just replace one cable and expect a world of difference.. The components need to be high quality, and all wires and cables need to be of the same brand; Monster in this case.  Then there will be a difference, Trust me.

Was this on your own set up? Was it your own investment? Were you aware of which cable was used when you listened to it? Unless you approached it with a VERY high level of skepticism, I'd have to question if your perception wasn't affected by your expectations. If you did a blind test of the cheaper cables and high end cables and could correctly identify which was being used, that might hold more validity.
 
It's also very doubtful that you saw a difference. Hearing a difference using analogue audio cables is not unreasonable. It's pretty well recognized that HDMI cables have to meet a standard and there wont be a difference between a cheap cable from monoprice versus a pricier HDMI cable. Many well recognized technology reviewers that deal with high quality equipment every day have voiced the same views and have even recommended sites like monoprice for quality HDMI cables.
 
Not to go off on another automotive tangent... but it's still on topic with the current discussion: In the automotive world, there's something people refer to as the "butt dyno". For those that don't know, a dyno is basically something used to measure the power a car is producing. A lot of people joke about or ask someone if they felt anything on the "butt dyno" after doing pretty much any sort of modification or work on a car. This is because people will report some observable difference for even the most minute change. People will joke that stickers add something like 10 horsepower. I've even seen instances of people reporting their car being more responsive or having more power and then they find out that the modification actually resulted in a loss of power. I think this happens with a lot of audio equipment. People probably couldn't do a blind test to identify some changes in an audio set up, but they'll swear there was a difference if they were aware of the change. I'm not saying there isn't a difference, but it's questionable how perceivable it is in some instances.
 
Mind you, I'm not saying your ability to recognize these differences is any better or worse than the rest of us. I'm just saying that we're just taking your word for it and assuming that you judged it without any prior conceptions or expectations from each set up. Humans are very susceptible to suggestion.

I've seen numerous set ups, both in private residence and commercial locations like professional electronics stores.. non-commercial ones.  They've set up a system one way and showed it and sounded it to me.. I've watched and enjoyed ... then retested the same material with a different set-up.  The order wasn't chronological either.. They've asked me where and how are the differences and why.  In many ways, I could barely tell... but.. it's a matter of time spent with them...  I've spent long enough to see and hear what it is.. but only after a prolonged time you'd be able to fully benefit from it.   This is also why I say that this is a personal priority and cash-flow relationship.  As if you were to watch some content at some commercial place, whether it's wired with Monster or some $20 HDMI cable.. you won't be able to tell because you're unfamiliar with the media or the medium that is reproducing it (like the TV or the home surround..)
 
As for you doubting what I say... well, that is almost bordering question begging. 
 
This won't be any different if I'd start challenging and doubting every poster here that claims one headphone to be more acoustically sound than the other where the scope of reference is very small..

Aaaaand all credibility is lost. There is, functionally, absolutely no difference between any Monster HDMI cable and a 20 or 10 or 3 dollar monoprice one. None. Nada. Not talking about experience, just cold facts. It's a digital cable - It either sends a signal, or it doesn't. That's waaaay different than an analog audio cable where you can actually change quality by changing cables. You were right about spending money on expensive cables giving a more noticable impact with higher end sources and set ups, but not digital cables. No. That's entirely in your head.

Headphones deal with analog signals. Analog and digital are completely and totally different beasts.

For digital? No. I've tried it all, for years, and for digital coax, as long as it wasn't assembled by blind people, it'll sound the same. We ABX tested with an $800 Tranparent Reference 75-Ohm Digital Link cable and a straightened coat hanger, no clear winner. Though, I have to say, the Transparent cable looked very nice.

Analog? Well, if you have a great source, good room, very revealing gear, monitors that you're familiar with, and particular tracks that you know intimately... yeah, you can hear differences. It isn't Earth shattering, but it can be noticeable.
