I'm going by memory as I sold my TH-900 (v1), and Z1R quite a few years back but I seem to remember the TH-900 to have a somewhat shallow U-shaped signature where the midrange is milder than the Z1R. I felt the TH-900 had a decent treble presence the Z1R to be a have a darker signature with a few odd treble peaks that didn't agree to my ears. So the Z1R didn't last very long in my possession.

Hawaiian koa Lawton and yes some. Course I went level three so hard to say what did what but wider for sure

Yep...I've owned both a few years ago and completely agree with your assessment. :)

Sony Z1R is similar to TH900MK2 in the sense that their bass is their best feature - neither is great if you are looking for a balanced sound.
The bass is the TH900's best feature, no doubt. For the Z1R, however, its tonality is its greatest attribute, IMO. I love that smooth, lush, liquid sound.

I still haven’t come across a headphone that sounds like the Z1R’s. They are truly unique and a joy to listen too!
