It seems like the same translated copy leaked in the initial post for the most part, but there's a lot of stunning new footage and screen shots... I need to comb through in more detail. And yes, the Indigo dye process video is live too :)

Available for purchase in Japan and at Moon Audio and pre-order at Audio46 stateside!

Cool! Just checked their official website and purchase link, and it shows that it's currently in stock, which means it is actually available for purchase now! FOSTEX's distributor here is ECT. I wonder if they or ECT will showcase these two at next month's Hong Kong AV Show :L3000:

Any HFiers who attended the Fujiya Summer Headphone festival yesterday in Tokyo? If so, may be they'll be able to share some impressions. Alas all my contacts in Fostex have retired.

I was able to listen to both of these at the headphone festival yesterday. Note, they were among the later things I listened to that day, so my ears were a bit tired by then and I may not have the most accurate impressions. Also, it was a show environment so between the external noise and limited time, I didn't really analyze them too deeply. For reference, they were being driven out of an A&K Kann Ultra.

To me the broad strokes of the frequency response were very similar between both the open and closed back versions. They sounded a bit bass light, but what was there sounded very tight and seemed to extend well. Nothing particularly stood out to me in the midrange response, but they did seem to lean a bit bright, though they were never sibilant. Instead it gave them an airy, almost ethereal feeling. As for the technicalities, they both seemed to display the details of the songs I listened to and both staged very well.

As far as differences, from my short listening session the biggest one was the way they presented the sound. For the closed version, the best way I could describe it was like my head was in the middle of a circle of sound that seemed to have a fairly even sense of width and depth. It even managed to sometimes present certain sounds as coming from behind my ears. While they are indeed a closed back, they don't really isolate like a fully closed headphone and instead sound more semi-closed like an EMU Teak.

For the open back it felt like that circle was just shifted forward. There were even a few times where for a second or two it felt like the sound of an instrument or vocalist was coming from an arms length in front of me. One interesting thing on both versions was that the only thing separating the driver from my ear was a very thin (almost completely see-through) mesh from the pad. There wasn't even any visible dampening on that side of the driver, but who knows what's going on inside those cups.

As for the comfort, these are both excellent. The headband strap that was added eliminated any hotspots on my head and the earpads had plenty of space and were extremely soft. They felt like they just melted onto my head and it felt like I could easily wear these for multiple hours without any discomfort.

My overall feeling of these were that they sounded very light and nimble. Despite the slightly brighter tilt which I'm normally not the biggest fan of, they didn't sound fatiguing in the slightest and actually made for an enjoyable and relaxing listen even with the emphasized top end. Though I would definitely want to give them a longer listen in a quieter space to confirm my initial impressions of the sound.

Fostex posted these shots to Twitter/X comparing the new housing to the 900/909:

The enclosure looks more cylindrical than hemispherical, making for more cavity space for the driver. This is particularly evident in the larger grated aperture area on the TH1100. New headband looks great, but I'm still a little wary of that hinge.

It's a little disheartening to hear these described as bass lite... the TH500 just couldn't muster much in sub bass in this form factor, hopefully that's not the case here. Looking forward to reading more impressions as these get out at the shows more.

hmmm... based on existing review, it seems that Fostex has changed their tuning preference.
Looking forward to seeing more reviews!

Looking for a last Japanese headphone to add in my collection. Originally plan to get stax sr-x9000. Although it sounds fantastic, it is way too high to reach. Did Some research and love to hear the final d8000pro. This comes out. I have to wait and see. Previously owned the x00 and th900. Love the x00 but 900 sound too v shaped. Hope the th1000 get a better review and I will take a listen someday at the dealer.

I wonder if you'd like the TH900 Anniversary (Blue, White, Purple) as they are less v shaped than the standard TH900, or alternatively TH909 and TH808 maybe??? Those would be a bit cheaper.

But hopefully we get more impression on TH1000RP and TH1100RP soon lol.

I only had the original th900 for a year. I have seen, but haven't heard the anniversary editions or open back 909.
