Alright I won't have time for a few days, but I'll sand and take them apart and do some mods to the design. Main problem is I wasn't sure how tall the separate ones needed to be to get them to the same height

If I wanted to make each rung a bit wider it would need a total redo from scratch, which would be something of a nightmare

Yipes, I haven't been in here in a while. Lots of crazy stuff going on. I had a random thought today; has anyone tried down (feathers) as damping?

...learning lessons every day with my build...seal is important. Very important...handy trick learned though: carefully bending the aluminium arms on the headband, ever so slightly, drastically improves seal (at least on bigger noggins like mine).

I guess yes same like in LCD

Ya but thats meant for that driver/setup, from what ive understood ( possibly misunderstood) the wave guides being made for the normal (closed-semi open) t50  are specifically being designed with closed back audio properties in mind. Im just lost on what mods to try, im going to end up trying a few wooden/mdf baffles, seeing how  close the driver needs to be from the ear. Too close to the ear i may still get unwanted reflections from the hifiman cups. But maybe i need some reflection for the lower end to still be there. Basically to be honest, im going to make some crappy baffles, secure the drivers the best i can, throw a few different pads on and see what they sound like. After that, ill need to get a second pair of drivers so i can compare to the closed modded set i have. If the open mod fails, ill simply close the hifiman cups and build another closed t50!

Hah, actually I was buying a new winter jacket and in all the research between down vs thinsulate vs primaloft etc, I started wondering how those thermal insulating materials would act as acoustic absorbers since they all work by trapping air pockets and have very thin fibres.

Maybe I can see if i have some thinsulate lined gloves around < I never need gloves it is always too warm here :)
It's areally good idea Armaegis.

I'm just wondering, has anyone tried the jerg/anax shelf liner mod for the Fostex?

Would this do anything for them?

Curious if anyone knows the spec's on the small screws that hold the driver to the cup.  They seem like they would strip real easy at the Phillips head if you aren't too careful.  They look to be too small for what's stocked at my hardware store, but you never know.

I'm new to modding these.  Just got my first pair and so far I have:
     - Mass loaded the back of the driver with "Bake Shop" clay.
     - Added thin memory foam pads to back of the plastic cup.
     - Added cotton between plastic cup and driver.
     - Tightened the headband clamping power by bending the headband in 2 locations.

Simple and basic mods I know.  Right now I'm limited on time and materials.  I almost stripped a couple of these small screws though, while getting the driver off.  I re-installed the screws with light pressure, not too tight, for easier removal next time.  I would like to stock up on some extra's just in case.
