Focal Utopia General Discussion

I feel the utopia has the best dynamic driver bass punch. fast and impactful and directed right to the ear drums. but as good as it is, the TC bass reigns supreme.

the beauty of the TC is u can "adjust" the bass, ie rotate the pad alignment, spread out the frame, toe in/out, and even the position it sits on your head can all change the sound to suit you/your mood/the music.

if you want a fire and forget, just wear and enjoy set of headphones, the Utopia will not disappoint.

*edit please add IMO everywhere... LOL
I would agree with Roasty.

The only thing I would add, perhaps a bit controversially :dt880smile: , is that while the TC bass impact will be more fun for most people, IMO, the Utopia has a slightly more natural decay. It's slower, notes linger longer, etc.

YMMV.

I am wondering whether to get a Euforia AE or a Cayin HA300 to have some tube fun with the Utopia

Option 2 is getting the primavera to drive the TC and the Utopia altho I really like the TC presentation with the Accuphase. Just the right amount of sweetness and body to the TC sound.

Sometimes someone says that Utopia have lean bass, imo they have great bass rumble, optimal strong and great quality. Of course 1266 are different bass beast.

It could just be what they are plugged into. I’ve seen a lot of Hugo 2 / Utopia pairings and I feel that seems to give them a lean character. I’m assuming it’s just the voicing of that amp vs a power issue since even the original Hugo had better synergy with the Utopia other than very closed in sound. But if I would have stuck with the Hugo 2, I’m sure I’d have sold off the Utopia and found a better match. So happy I stuck with the Utopia instead.

Has the warranty period on Utopias lessened?E12B023C-4D79-430E-A67E-57286DF9310F.jpeg
Looks that way. I checked a few local retailer websites and they're all listing a two year warranty, with one exception, which could be older stock.

It would be worthwhile for Focal to post the serial number the new policy begins with and confirm if they made a running charge to the drivers that precipitated the shift in warranty.

Hey folks - I've been lucky enough to have a Nimbus US5 pro on demo. Seems the Utopia can deliver wide, accurate soundstage after all - you just need a humping great big german amplifier :D That Violectric sound works really nciely with the Utopias, adding a bit more weight low-down, but with no loss of detail/timbre - nice! Very impressed with the Nimbus, but not (necessarily) sold on the pro version......horses..courses...etc. If you get the chance of a loaner demo, the Nimbus is well worth a listen.

On a separate note, it's been a while since the early cable threads for the Focals. In recent times, has anyone come across anything impressive and new, or is Danacables still the top of the heap, Utopia-wise?
