I think my Utopia have burned in or my brain has become
familiar with these cans amazing sonic signature. Regardless I feel the bass has opened up, with more visceral impact. However the bass very tight and does no muddy up the sweet, smooth mids. The treble is great, with great micro detail, but no annoying sybilance. I am very impressed by these amazing headphones. I do wish the soundstage was slightly larger.

So... do you think they live up to the hype? Worth $4k?

Yes in some ways the Utopia is definitely worth $4k. However I think the price, like other luxury headphones is a tad over rated. But I am very impressed with the sou x quality and build quality.

As discussed above, you can get this with a cable change.
I think the stock cable sounds quite good, though it can sound a little closed in and even blurry (compared the Kimber tcss I'm using).

I need a new cable for my Utopia , this heavy cable bugs me  . Any suggestions ?

There are quite a few...I think one of the member here did a compilation.

For me, I am very happy with my Nordost Heimdall & DHC silver Complement4 thus far. Still evaluating my Wywires Platinum and my DHC copper Complement4.

I know Dana Cable Lazuli Reference is getting a lot of love around here...hoped to get mine soon

My Utopias have just arrived and are already plugged into my Chord DAVE for a long run-in. Initial listen of about five minutes makes clear that they have a bit of opening up to do compared to how they sounded at CanJam London. Sound stage, as expected, is also narrower than with my HE1000 but I don't expect that to be a problem for me. That cable is something else. Glad I've got a DHC Silver Complement 4 coming (mainly for my HE1000) with variety of adapters that will slso allow me to try my Black and Silver Dragons with the Utopia. I'll be keeping an eye open for impressions of using other cables with these phones.

I would have to say that the Dana Lazuli Reference cable are the best one I ever heard for Utopia. Soundstage opened up and very musical.

May I know which other cables do you use as reference to compare your Lazuli Reference? I'm trying out several (both silver & copper) and trying to find one to hit my exact sweet spot

I agree with this hands down sound wise but @a1ucis bugged by the weight and the Dana is a little bit on the heavy side so to me after the Dana then the Heimdall 2 and this one is supper light in comparison
