Does anybody know if I can find a demo of the Elear or the Utopia in Denver? I think it's better to have a try before I make up my mind to spend the money.
I don't have the V2 right now but my V1 sounded very laid back and lacking when compared to the Utopia. V1 is a great little headphone no doubt about it and it needed a beefy amp to shine. V2 is supposed to sound closer to Utopia, but I highly doubt it

Actually I'm living far away from big cities like St.Louis where there might be dealers. So I just even have not realized that I can try them in Missouri. What I was thinking these days is that since I have to go for a meeting in Denver, I can just find a demo by the way. That's it, and thank you for the reminder.
IMO they are two completely different animals. The HEK V1 has a relaxed, organic sound and on the other hand the Utopia is faster, punchier and more in your face. They are tow different flavors that will depends on your taste. In my case I am keeping the HEK and already placed an order upgrading form the Elear to the Utopia after spending some time with a loaner in my systems.
IMO the synergy of the music chain with the Utopia is more critical than with the HEK. The Utopia pairs great with my WA5-LE v1 and my Wells Audio Enigma (with upgrades). With my MHA100 is a hit and miss depending on the recording. With some recording with the MHA100 it can sound a little too aggressive in the upper midrange and highs causing me some fatigue. BTW the cable these Utopia have is a Black Dragon. I ordered a Dana Cable Reference for mine. I personally will not use any cable SPC or Silver. I think a good Copper (OCC Copper) cable is a better match for my taste.
I'm told the dealer finder on the focal site will show any store authorized for any focal products, and that includes car stereo. I recommend you call the store and verify they carry the headphones.
