flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)

I've heard almost all the IEMs on the list (exception to the S-EM9 and Prelude) and the Dream was the one thing that didn't sit well with me. Something about the midrange timbre sounded off and the treble had a sort of peakiness and an almost metallic ringing. Can probably blame the sources (iPhone dongle, Fiio X5iii, AK70, Mojo, HA-2) and even tried an impedance adaptor (20ohm). Don't think it's a driving issue since I was getting comfortable volumes even on 50% of the IP7 dongle.

Just my 2c since I'm sure people would appreciate an opinion from the other side of the fence. I actually hope the SE5U is next to fall (the abject lack of upper treble of the SE5Ref I heard docked many points for me despite the great mids and wonderful bass) but as I think about it, Samba could be #10 9. (Or perhaps even the Prelude, who knows )
Such is the world of headphones and how differently we all hear a signature that is pleasing to us. I have found with the Dream that I gave up my usual go to tips, JVC Spiral Dots, in favor of a narrow bore. I don't hear issues with treble. The Dream is kind of up front, like home speakers. The bass is really awesome and the amount of air around each note is impressive.

I don't know, I am thinking the Unique Melody Maestro V2 might be next. Just a hunch.

I suspect it will survive a few more rounds, personally. That thing sounded d@mn good.

Sounds pretty much like my listening experience with the "Truth". Weird take on a house-sound if you ask me :D

Says you. I thought the vanilla NT6 was a step higher technically and the increased bass resulted in comprised mids and clarity.
Says you.
