Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to the most for sure but I still want them to have good detail retrieval. My OH10 has good detail and a pretty good soundstage but they can sound a bit too thin at times so I'm hoping the A4000 has a more meaty sound than they do. I'm a fan of good DD headphones and IEMs for that matter so I think these will be right up my alley.

So I'm new to final but find myself really liking the brand and design philosophies and looks.

I don't really like in ears, but I'm going to be in a situation for the first time where I might need the better isolation than my good old vintage SONY earbuds (open office when we return to work... had a personal office since I started working and gotta move to open office after coronavirus lol).

I went through some reviews and measurements and it seems like the FI BA SS/T would be the ones for me as my sound preference would be mid centric like the SONY CD3000/R10 though I also like the clarity of the STAX 009S (also do not want the type where you loop the cable around your ear). Unfortunately they are so terribly expensive, especially for an earphone, and I'm pretty much done with super expensive phones.

• How do they compare to the STAX 003 MK2?
• How about comparisons to the cheaper Heaven series (say IV/V/VI) or the F7200 (if I do not wear it deep cause I do not want to do that)?
• Does the T model have a detachable cable now?

A4000 is not thin, I would call it lean, due to its punchy, very fast and lean bass. Detail to me is very good/ exceptional, listening to them right now, paired with a Cowon pm2 (that has a warm signature) to me it's the ending game for the budget/midfier music enthusiast. Now I'm about at 50 hrs burn-in. Final Audio reccomends at least 100 hrs.

A little over a month or two ago the cable of my Final Audio FI-BA-SSt25 broke, so I decided that this was the perfect time to replace the cable with some mmcx connectors.

I could have gone about this in 2 ways: adapt the casing to fit the connector, or adapt the connector to fit the casing. I decided on the latter.

Not having the right tools, I expected this to become a complete failure, but I had lady luck on my side and lo and behold:

To make it fit I had to file down the nut, take a few mm off the top of the threaded part, and take it in a mm around the base. with better tooling no doubt it would've been easier.

After fitting the thing, I used a dab of solder to keep the nut and thread in the right place, now to solder some wire to the balanced armature. the copper wire is about as thick as a hair, and because I can't talke the BA out of the case, it was quite difficult to get these soldered in (2 wires per IEM)

Here the wires are soldered to the connector. positive lead on center, negative on outside.

The black band is temporary. I have a bad history with gluing these back together so i'm putting that off....using heatshrink for now.

I'm really happy with the result would love to see someone take apart a pair of Astel & Kern AKR-02 just to compare my mmcx construction with Finals'

Quick update: just paired my E5000 with the Dragonfly Red. Simply put the pairing adds height and presence to the highs while thinning out the bass. I find this welcoming and makes the overall sound more balanced and appropriate to the recording.

I highly recommend this pairing.

I agree - I use the same setup and they make a great pair.

Fun fact: There's a song in my collection in 1996 CD and in 2015 remastered SACD. The SACD played back on the Sony IER-M7 sounds almost identical to the CD played back on the E4000. The SACD is, like every SACD nowadays, objectively warmer than the CD; the M7 is, in my opinion, more neutral than the E4000. On the other hand, M7+CD sounds unbearably bright, while the E4000+SACD sounds a bit too bassy. My preference is: M7+SACD = E4000+CD > E4000+SACD >>> M7+CD.

Bottom line: E4000 is incredibly friendly to poorly recorded/mastered music, which is like 99% of the music worth listening to.

So sad, but so true.

Firstly I have say who is the A4000 designed for being so specialised in its sound sig that male vocals sound so bad.
Secondly thank you Final audio for designing A4000 the way it is.

Honestly the A4000 is like drugs. It has that sweet goddess like vocals that draws you in and then makes you regret everything when the female death grows start.

That being said CP145 kind of mitigates this. Its a good compromise of slight detail smearing and increased bass decay for thighter more accurate soundstage and fixed lower mids. I hightly recommend the pairing.

It's the same tuning gimmick that ATH has been pulling for the last 20 years lol. Try the IEX1 if you'd like an overdose.

Interesting, honestly I didnt try the IEX1 because my local ATH dealer/buddy said it sounded horrible and out of phase. Will have to try when I get the chance. Although besides AD900X I dont think there is any current gen ATH that Ive heard so far that kills male vocals as much as the A4000 with stock tips.

Right, the last few years ATH has been trying to shake away that image (and I like that). But it was pretty bad back in the limited-edition-wooden-earcup days

I've had my A4000 for a few days now and I must say it's a very nice IEM that I'm enjoying quite a bit. I'm a headphone person first and for most so for me to like an IEM it has to have a good soundstage and boy do these have a good soundstage. Normally I'm not a big fan of the V-shaped sound signature but the A4000 does it in a way I like though I do wish the mids had a bit more presence overall. Bass is not too boomy and has a nice texture to it and the highs can be bright at times but they haven't gone past the point of being harsh which is good. I changed the tips to foam and that has made them sound much better giving the bass more bite and taming the highs but you don't lose any of the detail. All in all I'm very happy with them and I think they're a great buy for the price.
