You cannot drive the Abyss 1266 with a phone and due to their shape you cannot use them lying down as you will not be able to get the seal. They have no clamping force and they effectively just lie on top of your head. You adjust them by narrowing or enlarging the headband. I guess, if you really, really want, you could but as soon as you move they will fall out of position and you would lose their signature sound.

Got my silver D8000 Pro a few days ago. Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely brilliant so far! Love it!

After three days of listening to the D8000 Pro, I put on my D8000, the same volume, cable and music and damn my D8000 sounds better. There is actually a better soundstage, more air, individual sounds are not so stuck together, better resolution. The Pro sounded warmer and my D8000 was more natural. My D8000 has a bigger omph! the Pro's are smoother, which I don't really like It turns out that the Pro only have better treble. Im quite shocked!

Maybe
the D8000 Pro needs more time to run in.

... or maybe you have a bad D8k Pro. sorry, the afflicted audiophile in me could not resist:)
Cannot say that I heard exactly what you describe but I can tell you that for a while I preferred my D8K to the Pro. Whether it was brain or headphone burn-in, or a combination of both, I did eventually prefer the D8K pro to the D8K. if you value clarity and neutrality you might too. When I do switch to my D8k I do not feel a let down though.

Hi! Can the d8000 pro be powered by a dap? I have the Fiio m15 and it can output almost 1w of power.

Also any suggestions on a portable tube dac/amp? Was looking into the woo wa8 but I'm not sure it has enough power (250 mw into 32ohm)

I ordered them today and I'm pretty excited. Will probably get the IDSD pro for desktop use.

Apreciate any thoughts!

You can pretty much power it from anything. I use a Hugo 2 and a Fiio Q5Sc however they can be driven equally well by my iphone with the apple dongle or my Mac headphone Jack. In my view they don’t really need anything special to be driven adequately. To be honest with you, the difference between the apple dongle and the Hugo 2 is negligible (to my ears)

There is a reason why D8000 or Pro doesn't ship with a balanced cable. It doesn't need it. It can pretty much be driven by anything

I power my Pro's from the Shanling M8 and the A&K SP2000 effortlessly, but I do enjoy throwing the RomiAudio BX2+ into the mix from time to time

Anyone running these from a vintage speaker amp - either from the taps or just from the headphone out?

Can D8000 pro really compete with abyss on soundstage, detail retrieval, bass impact?
