This was actually a feature request from this thread by a user about 3 firmwares ago.  The thought behind this is that when plugging in your headphones, you don't blow out your ears with the sudden jarring full sound.  I think it's a good idea and have appreciated it a few times. 

As far as this update, I've had no issues with it and it sounds great.  I'm very pleased with the update.  I'm on an AM3 with balanced phones.

I agree with this reasoning. It makes sense as you are going from a relatively quieter environment to a (potentially) much louder environment. You don't want to be blowing your eardrums. What I might suggest to Fiio is instead of going from an attenuated volume to the full (ie louder) volume when you plug in your cans, it might be better to go from an attenuated volume and then gradually increase to the full (ie louder) volume.

Maybe for the gent who wanted to do an A/B, Fiio could create special option in the settings to allow you to not attenuate the volume when plugging in your cans. I suspect this is the better approach as, by default, I expect people would prefer to not have their ears damaged accidentally than doing an A/B.

Just a thought...

Well, I'm a bigger one because with that setup, I still add my Headstage Arrow 5tx with double bass boost!!

But, I agree, for most people that combo is quite good.

JamesFiiO What's up with Micca store charging $199 for the am3? Not only are they ripping people off, your X7 is getting bad reviews on Amazon due to their price gouging. The am3 module has either a 2 or 3 star rating due to Micca and their greed. Is there another source to get the am3 in the US? I can't pay double just on principal alone.

if the am5 can not drive demanding headphones with great authority like hifiman, audeze and other demanding headphones with just the am5, we really need you to think about desgining an amp module that can be even thicker than the regular am modules, we will will not look at how the combo will look like, or battery life, as we know to drive those you need a strong amp, and anyone using x7 will have to strap an external amp to drive such headphones which looks ugly anyway
 
so please consider making such amp whatever the design looks like we will take it
 
look at the ak380 amp it looks with the ak380 like a big brick

Not really, some newer Android builds have a base sample rate of 192kHz instead of 48kHz but the basic premise of resampling all system audio to the same sample rate doesn't change. It also means that all your CD audio that was not having to be resampled now have to be resampled as well.

Although a few more apps may be able to bypass system audio on newer android build?

Either way, I regard the call for a common sample rate among all applications a necessity for usability concerns, not a bug--especially if a high quality resampling algorithm is used (as it is on the X7).

Statements regarding some leftover problems of X7 FW2.0

 

Thanks to our engineers' hard work, we have recently released the X7 FW2.0, which is going to solve the problems that many consumers were asking to do. But meanwhile, new bugs come with the adjustments. Those problems are the least things we would like to see since it will take lots of time to figure them out. However, the good news is that most problems can be avoided during the use. Therefore, we decided to release the FW2.0 with the hope of not keeping you wait for too long.

 

First of all, we feel it obligated to explain all these problems in detail so that you can better understand them. But please rest assured, we will solve these problems in the following firmware. Please give us time to work on this and we apologize sincerely for all the inconvenience .

 

Problems to be solved: 
1. Volume will decrease and then resume in 8sec after plugging the headphone in.

2. When playing PCM tracks, there will be a fade in when fast forward or rewind, which will generate a small-to-large change in the output wave.

3. Docking the X7 to K5 to play music then connecting it to computer through USB, X7 can't be recognized unless you plug it out and in again. Disconnect it from the computer, the reminder of mass storage mode will not vanish.

4. Using the micro SD card to upgrade, the LO output amplitude will decrease by half, and you need to turn on and off the “Adjustable volume at lineout” or reset the X7 to factory default.

5. When using X7 as a USB DAC, there might be sound delay with video playing.

6.Enter the FiiO Music, play a track and connect X7 to the RM1, VU meter will stay still. Exit the app and restart it, VU meter will function well.

7. Enter the FiiO Music and connect X7 with Bluetooth headphone, VU meter will stay still, exit the app and restart it, Bluetooth will stop functioning. To solve the problem, you can plug in and out the headphones or turn off and on the Bluetooth.

8. The default coaxial output is DOP and D2P output has not been supported yet. DOP/D2P switch option will be added in the following firmware.

9. Some album covers might not be displayed in the Artist menu.

10. Connecting X7 with RM1, the sampling rate of coaxial output can't be switched immediately. Problem can be solved after you reboot the X7 and restart the app.

11. If the Google play store error pops up and X7 can't function well, please try to update your firmware to FW2.0 or reset your X7 to factory defaults.

12. When connecting RM1, the volume of X7 will decrease and then resume after RM1 switching to sleep mode
