I've just had a look at Amazon.com (although my local version is .co.uk) and the AM3 is not listed on Amazon.com at present.

The AM5 and AM2 are listed by 3 different sellers, all at the recommended price of $99.

Mica do not appear for any of the items.  Perhaps they have taken the hint that potential buyers have rumbled their rip-off?

I wouldn't have complained for upwards of $149. I don't really mind paying a premium on things, but the 100% mark up was too much for me. If they are paying $60. Selling at $99, that's almost $40. I don't do retail, but that's over a 40% markup, seems like a good mark up, no?

40% margin is certainly generous for electronics, but that is volume dependent. As well, it depends on how hot the item is. A lower margin may be fine if the items are moving quickly, or if the vendor doesn't force large minimums on you which is compounded if the stock is slow moving. I suspect the resellers unless they are buying high volumes aren't getting that high a margin at MSRP, 30% seems more likely before other costs are factored in. It is still a stupid decision on their part to be that greedy. If they need that type of margin they likely won't be in business long as it suggests poor fundamentals to me.

Also, on the question of Viper4Android, @Sound Eq, @x RELIC x, V4A doesn't do any downsampling per se, it simply takes whatever audio that goes through the Android system (as opposed to bypassing it like FiiO Music) is sampled at and reports it in its "Driver Status". Nor does it actively seek to reroute audio, it only processes audio that has been going through the Android system in the first place. So the fact that V4A reports processing:Yes at Sampling Rate:44100 Hz simply means that the audio particular music app you're using has been going through the Android system at that rate all along.

i know my follow up question is non x7 related

but can i ask do you know of an android phone that does not down sample, and can play high res and can be connected to the mojo, and have v4a on it

For the record, I did email them, more so because of the reviews the am3 was receiving. They had a 2 star rating, due to the price discrepancy. I didn't think that was fair to Fiio. They said they didn't have them in Stock (odd because amazon showed 7) but they were adjusting the price.

warrior1975,  we are so sorry for this mistake, we already informed the Micca to correct the price again.

You can't actually tell them what to charge, that isn't allowed, but you can suggest as in suggested retail. The only thing a supplier can do is stop selling to a re-seller, but you can't tell them what to sell for, but I suspect you know that.

Sonic Defender, Yep , we know that, all the sellers have right to set anyretail price they like , but we always give them a MRSP.

We all have to make money, but fiio offers great prices and the retailers shouldn't take all the profit and hurt consumers in the process.

We have good relationship with most of our dealers and Mica is certainly one of them. We had talked to Mica about this problem. They didn't mean to rip our customers off and they just tried to make a listing of AM3 on the Amazon since many customers were asking about where to buy an AM3. And they didn't expect that any of you would buy them at 199.99$.  We had shipped the AM3 to our agents in US, though the quantity is limited, but I'm sure you can buy it soon~

This isn't specific to FiiO as I certainly know absolutely nothing about their pricing structures/relationship with resellers. There are times when the manufacturer almost outcompetes their dealer network with low margin direct sale prices that they can offer due to many factors. I ran into this with several companies, the most memorable was Burts Bees. They built up a really large reseller network, got them all really proficient at selling the product, merchandising, presenting etc.  They didn't compete against the resellers very much at all and they made sure to never discount below the MSRP. Then suddenly they moved the line into Big Box stores who operated on razor thin margins, plus, they sold directly at really low prices themselves which screwed the very small scale dealer network that they had built themselves up with.

I know that is normal, but I mention this as sometimes when you see a reseller quite a bit more expensive than the company sells for (again, not in this case with FiiO) that can just as easily mean the company is only providing small margins for the resellers to work with, which of course makes them look bad if they are trying to stretch the price to get a tolerable margin. In the end it was sad as Burts Bees over-expanded and people lost interest in the line as suddenly it was everywhere and it lost some of it's appeal. Suddenly they started offering special incentive programs to bring back the small business vendors again who had left the line as it was just not worth it anymore. Not sure what it is like now, but I thought it worth sharing in the spirit of the present discussion. Okay, done being OT, sorry folks.

Yes, they explained that to me via email. I didn't mean to imply they weren't ripping people off at this point, it was done in a mistake. I only brought it to their attention specifically because of the 2 star rating that reflects on the amp module poorly, when the issue was with the price.

Hi, These may already have been answered but I can not find them in here.
I got the X7 and updated the firmware to 1.9.1. There are a few issues I seem to be having.

The Line/coax out. When i connect this to the car stereo the power seems terrible and nothing compared to the X5ii. The other issue is when i disconnect the cable from the Coax the player switches to a different random album and starts playing in the backround, If I didn't put my ears to the headphones i would not know. So the unit has to be powered down completely.
Any advise would be great as its becoming a issue with me and I may just return it.

you think that x5ii better?
