As soon as I get a pin diagram I am putting a dash micro into a X7 test module.

Contact support@fiio.net, they should be able to give you what you want :D

I went back to the Fiio X5 for a bit because the X7 doesn't have USB DAC function implemented yet. The difference in sound quality isn't as big as I noticed going from X3 to X5. However, I do know X7's potential as I've hooked it up to my Valhalla amp to run my HD 650s. So along with USB DAC, I am hoping for the K5 to come out. It's more portable than lugging my pile of Schiit..which isn't a good idea since I've been moving a lot recently and will be for a while.

Has anyone had a listen with the HiFiMan HE-400i and X7? It's on sale for $299 USD from reg $499 so I couldn't resist. Was going to go for the Oppo PM-3 but from reviews, the HE400i is more neutral.

If you have listened please share your experience and opinion. I like more neutral transparent sound vs warm.  I assume this should be a big step up from my current NAD HP50?

Hi...

My first post...ignore my newbie-ness. (I've been lurking for about a year now.)

Forgive me for jumping into the middle of this, but this seems to be the only thread for X7. Now that X7 has been unleashed, a new thread apart from the "Upcoming Products" category might be helpful. This one is gigantic!

My one question for the moment is: Will the other Amplifier Modules (AM 2, 3, 4) have any affect on Bluetooth volume?

I'm guessing none. My AM1 is fine for my 9 wired cans with Ohms 16-100...well, that's a lie. I've only tried 3 so far. (Not sure about the Denon AHGC20.) They are all BT equipped, a prerequisite for my headphone choices.  (Important for Pat the Cat--my lap cat with an obsession for chewing headphone wires.

I would never beat my kitty!)

Of course I prefer to listen wired, but when I can't pay 100% attention, BT is wonderful. And wires rubbing on my button-down collars drive me nuts.

Not having apt-X doesn't seem to be an issue. I was sure I'd be crushed without it. Maybe "They" are right about the apt-X hype. But I'll never admit it...oh, wait...

Notes so far:

Build FW 1.5

Mine is batch NB T333a. I have no problem with WiFi. No extraneous sounds. Operates with 3-4 "bars/curves?"(75%-100%) and works fine with Tidal, Spotify and various Google things.

Spotify and Tidal did NOT work well when downloaded from FiiO store. I re-installed from Google Play and all is good.

(Spotify "Extreme" quality; Tidal highest "HiFi" ...1080p? All sound excellent and load flawlessly.)

I'm using a 200GB SD card with 138GB loaded onto it--no problems at all.

There was a sticker on the outer cellophane wrapper that said DAC capabilities had been enabled. I haven't gone there...yet!

Could you tell the highest sensitivity cans you used - and hear no wifi noise ?

I have both. In my opinion PM-3 are a little warm compared with 400i ... I like better the sound of 400i. Also it has better (although not the best) soundstage. But PM-3 are closed, more portable - have also a carry case included-  and better constructed. Also, the actual amp in the X7 manages well the PM-3, but struggles with the low sensitivity of the 400i.
To summarize, 400i are the better headphones and the us 299$ deal you got - me also :-)  - is great, but, if you want to keep the X7 as it is now (amp. wise), the PM-3 are a better choice

I don't understand the need for an external amp like an e12a for these to get them to sound the best. Is this more of a personal sonic preference or does it need an external amp to really perform?

If so, purely SQ wise, would it sound similar to ,say, an X1 with a e12a? (In terms of detail, separation, transparency, etc.)

Or would the superior DAC in the X7 affect the sound noticeably?

Thanks this was the exact comments I was looking for. It helps tremendously that you have both and can comment. I think I'll keep my order for the he-400i. I do plan to get an higher power amp module when available.

Thanks.

The BT volume is "pretty good" and certainly safe, Mom. But nothing like when wired into even the AM1.

Any way to improve this?

I don't think there is anything you can do about the BT side of thing, except perhaps a more powerful BT receiver.

You need to look at it from an other way -  It is not the need of external amp to push for the best sound, but rather the stock IEM amp module isn't pushing X7 to its full potential yet. That is not to say the upcoming mid-power, high-power or balanced amp module isn't going to do just that. We could very well have the X7 + mid-power module sounding as good, or even better than X7 + E12A . We just don't know if that will be the case or not until the new amp module are released.

I'll say X1 + E12DIY (which is just as good, if not better than E12A) can get up to, say, about 85% of X7 with the stock IEM module - which is pretty amazing consider the price difference. Then again, we all know that the most expensive part of SQ improvement is always at the last few percents.

Could you tell the highest sensitivity cans you used - and hear no wifi noise ?

Sennheiser Momentum 2 (M2 AEBT): 113dB

B&W P5: 109dB

Philips Fidelio M2BT: 107dB

Those are the ones I've used over the last 2 days. Since BT is a must-have for me, all 9 of them are in a similar price range and are fundamentally the same headphone. (I don't know why...OCD?...a hobby?) They range from 97dB to 113dB--the Sennheisers being the highest.

(By the way, does anyone know the sensitivity rating of B&O BeoPlay H8? It's the only spec I don't have. I couldn't find it anywhere, not on their website or in their manuals--or even on the box. It would be nice to know since I'm in spec-gathering mode and have all the specs to everything else.)
