I think for cards above 200 that would indeed be the case. However a lot of people are successfully using cards 200 gigs and below formatted as exfat. I am glad you found a resolution to the nagging problem.
Seems like most of the issues with cards are related to 256gb, unless I am not remembering correctly. My 200gb cards are fine. I'm also fine with capacity at this point, have no real need to go bigger.
I too am using two 200Gb cards.
These work fine for me with Fiio app
Looking forward to increasing capacity in the X5 by 50% by swapping out one for a 400Gb but some saving needed first
Agree with other comment. Most Android music apps I have tried on the X5 won't see the second SD card. The Fiio one keeps getting the bugs squashed though so sticking with it.

Neutron (registered) is THE way to go with the X5 III, appart from DSD (but i don't need DSD) everything works so much better than Fiio Music, including streaming from my NAS (displays tags and covers). Best money i have ever spend in an app.

For what it's worth, I have x2 256gig Micro SD cards (sandisck brand) and they've always worked perfectly fine. I just put them in the x5 and it formatted them itself, so I didn't do anything special. The music player does seem to occasionally lose contact with them once in a while, but I honestly can't tell if that is an issue with the cards or if it's an issue with Fiio's music app. But they work 99% of the time (they only tend to lose contact when I'm playing very long playlists, at which point the playlist will crash and I'll have to restart it so I can't tell if it's an issue with the cards or an issue with the Fiio music app). I was going to install a 3rd party music app just to see if that would fix some of the crashing issues that the Fiio music app seems to have.
Very happy about the new 400gig cards, though. I am bumping up against space limits now (I have about 20gigs left before I'm completely full).
In terms of 3rd party music apps, has anyone tried the media monkey android app with the x5iii? Neutron looks fine, but Media Monkey has a feature where you can sync audio directly to your android device via wi-fi, which would be cool, obviously, as it might eliminate the x5's incredibly slow usb transfer times.
I would be interested in seeing results for WiFi transfer speeds. I tend to think it would be slower or best case the same. I think the problem is the X5iii and the way it writes to the memory.
If you try it, do let us know. I would be happy to have a faster option.
Thanks Craig - appreciate it. I could have written a lot more, and still feel like I glossed over some of the features, but it was getting too long anyway
