[FiiO M3K] Probably the Most Cost-Effective Hi-Res Music Player, Discrete HiFi DAC Chip, Supports up to 384K/32B

Does using it as a USB DAC use power from the battery or will it charge / power the device from the USB host? Thanks.
When the M3K work as a DAC , power is supplied to the device as follows:
1. While the device is charging
Because the computer USB port has limited current capacity, the battery is given priority for part of the charging current while the rest powers the device directly. But if the current draw by the device is high, the battery participates in powering the device as well. Hence, both the battery and the USB port take part in powering the device while the device is charging.
2. After the battery is full
Because there is no need to charge the battery anymore, the USB port would power the device directly. The battery would neither be charged nor discharged.
In summary of the above, the powering scheme of the M3K ensures that the battery may be fully charged while at the same time guaranteeing proper function of the device. Finally, the battery will be at rest after it is fully charged, thus guaranteeing extended battery life.

Best regards

I see this has hi and low power settings? Would this be equal to line out for stereo hi-fi system?

bob
Dear friend,

Which settings? The M3K doesn't support line out output.

Best regards

Does the M3K have a custom eq setting? Some of the reviews I am reading say it doesn't yet and may be added with a future firmware, I was wondering if that firmware has been released yet.
Dear friend,

Yes, the M3K doesn't have custom EQ currently. But we will consider adding it in later firmware update.

Best regards

While we're at it, Opus codec support would be nice -- I know this has been requested in the past for previous FiiO DAPs, but this is especially important for entry level DAPs like the M3K, it saves on storage compared to other codecs. It would be a great selling point!

We already try all we can to make the best products but still at the same price , in fact, we have very poor margin this time.

Margins very much depend on economies of scale, so if you can manage to sell many more than you anticipated, you will likely have much better margins. Component costs are also likely to decline over time, epecially with greater volumes. At the planning stages it is a guessing game about how many will sell. I'm just wondering how much more expensive it is to design similar models but with an additional feature, such as a model with built in FM radio(HD radio greatly preferred), or a clip on model, and perhaps a clip on model wth built in radio.

"I do not know the other people but I am shocked that they do not have internal storage, at least about 16-32 GB, this forces you to buy a micro SD."

I prefer not having built in storage, and never used the built in storage on my original M3. A second card slot would be a nice addition though. It would be especially helpful for those who listen to lectures or podcasts on their player, as they could use one card just for lectures/podcasts, and swap that out for a new one with new material on it, or add and delete podcasts or lectures without putting extra wear on the card ith the music. The card with the podcasts/lectures is likely to be a smaller capacity lower cost card. Adding and deleting podcasts/lectures is typically a very frequent event.
