Also the XB1000's are tempting now..

Don't be, they probably aren't what you think they are.  If you think adding numbers to this Sony lineup guarantees bigger, boomier bass you would be wrong.

it's a titanium vernier sprayed over the drive makes them more peaky in the highs.

Please give your critique for electronic music Tarbo!!!

They're great for electronic music but I do wonder if slightly darker headphones would be better though. Synths sound clear, treble is good, the bass is detailed and it can be tight or loose depending on the recording. The mids opened up a bit after more than 8 hours of burn-in so I am starting like these headphones more especially for the price. I hope they get even better after more burn-in.

Just use a linear phase equalizer to make it darker and/or bassier. There are some good VST plugins. Bridge them to Foobar and you should be good until upgraditis hits again.

So nice that my 580's came in less than 5 days from overstocks free shipping. So far they seem good without burn-in and these are the first new headphones that don't fatigue my ears at high levels prior to burn-in... but I don't know is it fair to compare these to the beats? They seem like two different headphones with different purposes.

I don't think these are "basshead" phones but then again what is the exact definition of a basshead around here? The bass is definitely not boomy nor too light with the hfi580's so far but then again I only just listened to a few songs on my macbook and without EQing anything. I'm actually surprised how comfortable the clamp is for me after reading many reviews saying they weren't the greatest. I'll write a full review later after I spend tons of time with these but so far so good, and it looks like a keeper for an "all around" headphone for the price range. I'm liking the details I'm hearing and the bass is decent. Time to plug it into a better source and listen to some electronic music.

Also the XB1000's are tempting now..

Well, I'd say, they aren't EQ'ed for straight bass knock with no adjustments, but if you play something with more powerful lows and EQ and amp it properly, they knock.

Listen to Closer-NIN, just the intro if your not a fan, this proved to me they were for bass heads.

I've been a bad boy.

I teach school.  Recently, a former student of mine asked me what I thought of the Beats - and of Bose.  Trying to be honest (and helpful) I told him the truth.  It nearly brought a tear to his eye.  I felt like a heel.

So, the next time I saw him, I apologized for my comments and said, "Those are actually good headphones."  I could burn in Hell for the lies I told to save him from hating me.

He then agreed with me and said they were very good headphones - at which point I nearly threw up in my mouth.  I don't know how to be honest without hurting people's feelings but clearly lying about it isn't working.

For those of you who still think the Beats are great, let me come clean:

1. Santa Claus is dead and he's not coming back.
2. The Gap does not sell good clothes.
3. Nike's motto should be "Just Buy It" since most of the price of the shoe is promotion and profit.
4. Coca Cola is sugar water.  If there's a secret formula hidden in a safe, it says, "Buy more ads."
5. Barack Obama is neither the antichrist, a socialist or a revolutionary.  He's a white guy whose dad was from Kenya.
6. The drivers in the HD800 are not any more revolutionary than ring magnets.
7. Using your celebrity to adopt children from Africa is just another form of colonialism.
8. BMW made really cool cars thirty years ago but if you like the present design, why not just buy a Ford Mustang?
9. The King's Speech was not the best movie of 2010.  It was a predictable film with two @#$# funny minutes.
10. McDonald's does not sell food; it sells fat, sugar, salt and cheap, plastic toys laced with lead.
11. Half of the New Testament was written by an "apostle" who never met Jesus, except the day he had a breakdown.
12. Keanu Reeves is becoming Clint Eastwood - and it works.
13. Clint Eastwood is becoming Ron Howard - and it works.
14. The Beats are great headphones if, by great, you mean headphones that go BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.
15. Bose makes great headphones if, by great, you mean headphones that make you feel like you have your fingers in your ears.
16. It's cheaper to stick your fingers in your ears.

I'd agree with all that except the above and one other point that will go unnamed but should be fairly obvious.
