Anyone planning on using EVO with a desktop setup rather than (just) DAP/portable player? (Or any other IEM for that matter!)
I’m toying with the idea of keeping my Bifrost 2 DAC (which I haven’t used much since selling most of my over ear headphones) and getting a new (small/cheap) desktop amp to pair with it when I’m at my desk…. Not sure it’ll necessarily add anything extra to the experience though to be fair, but any amp suggestions that work well with IEMs? Maybe an amp with THX technology? Preferably with balanced out headphone socket too…
I may still end up knocking this idea on the head and sticking with my portable solutions (Shanling M8 mainly) but worth exploring nonetheless…
Take a look at the Topping A90, its cost/performance ratio is off the charts, it's highly versatile IEMs to planar headphones, it isn't cold and lifeless like most modestly priced SS amps.
While we are talking about amps, does anyone have any good suggestions for "reasonably" priced tube amps that would work well with Odin (and hopefully Evo when it arrives)? Thanks

The Odin and EVO are very tough to pair with a pure tube amp due to their extremely low impedance. In general, for tube amps with output transformers, you want to have the headphone or IEM impedance greater than the output impedance of the tube amp. Odin has an impedance of 3 ohms at 1khz and EVO has an impedance of 4.5 ohms at 1khz. Most transformer tube amps have a minimum tap of 8 ohms. That won't cut it for driving these IEMs.
You would need to use a hybrid solid state tube amp. They sound okay, but you don't get the full tube sound.
