I bought the SP1000 because it did NOT have any hiss with the Zeus (nor does it with the Phantom). As to "too expensive," I'm not sure what that means on a site where people spend $1K for an iem cable. Or more for an a.c. cord. The Astell is 500 bucks more than the Sony Z. It's all relative to what you want and what you want to spend. I would never pay a grand for a cable. The SP1000 has been worth every penny I spent for it.

I do get a very slight hiss on the xr with my ZX300, too little to be of even the slightest concern though

I should elaborate: By too expensive, I meant too expensive for me. I was justifying why I didn't personally buy it, not why others shouldn't. Obviously, if I could afford the SP1000, I'd easily get one myself.
