The SP1000 is just way too much for me even at used prices. I've been half tempted to get a used AK380 as they are quite a bit more reasonably priced for me.

I think we are leading this thread to a different path. But just a last one about DAP, I really like DAPs and tend to agree the extr bucks brings something extra. I would sell my SE100 for an SP1000 or a new Sony A1 or Z1 with Tidal.

Unfortunately (for me at least), all my songs are from streaming services, so I'm extremely dependent on software and DAPs can be like phones after a couple years hardware doesn't support updates anymore and there it goes your 2500.

IEM as physical things only, doesn't need updates, so you can hold it forever if you want.

Same reason I won’t buy a megabuck DAP; they seem to get outdated pretty quickly. I’d rather buy a $1,000 DAP every year than a $4,000 one every 4 years. I’m certain there are others who would prefer to do the opposite though.

Well, a good AK holds its value. Especially if you aren't streaming dependent. For those of us that use FLAC or similar files, the AK is a great value and never gets outmoded (though newer ones may bring a different sound sig). My SP1000 is 2.5 years old and I see no reason to swap it out for newer better. For those of you who stream, there are probably better not-quite-TOTL DAPs that will do. But if you want the ultimate sound, the TOTL is the way to go.

well , there is also the in-between option

i paid 900$ for my sony WM1A , and i am still 100% happy with it 2+ years later

so you can keep something for 3-4 years and be completely happy with it, without having to sell a kidney

never heard Legend , so can't help you there

but i am sure there are enough Legend owners here with the wm1a or the wm1z

my point , focus on the music not the specs/price

that's what I meant. I heard it with the Z1r that reminds me a lot the LX. so hence the thoughts about sounding good with the LX.

is there anyone here owns any of these, VX, Zeus XR/MD, PP8.

So i like the VX mids and highs reso. Soo good! but i find that the bass is a bit too much to my liking. So, does zeus will do better for me? or what about pp8?

If you find the VX bass too much, then Zeus might work better for you there. Prophile8... is kinda boring. It’s good... just boring.

How's the vocals btw on Zeus MD? On VX is good but a smidge on mid bass can give more soul the song. But u got what i mean.

Also about the bass, how light it is. Can it be as light as er4xr or even less? I dont want it to be as light as 4sr.

Vocals are incredible on the Zeus. Bass if just fine unless you live by the bass. Then you would consider it light. If you like your music well-balanced, without overpowering boom boom, the Zeus should work for you.
