Hmmm... I felt like the Supras are a very different sound signature from the Shure house sound. Shure have very prominent, warm, smooth mids and strong bass with a recessed treble section that rolls off early, while the EarWerkz sound is much more neutral with a more prominent treble section in comparison. In my experience the DITAs were very treble heavy and have very little bass in comparison to the 846 and ASG-2.5, which certainly are bass heavy. Don't mean to disagree with you, just want to set your expectations properly! EarWerkz are much more neutral/analytical to me, and very different from anything I've owned besides the DITA and K3003.

Ahh I might be wrong but I have been using the shures 535 for almost 6 years and I personally feel that it's very mid focussed with bass that is accurate but definitely not strong. 846's follows the same signature with a forward mid but an even stronger and more articulate bass.

And yes I agree that the earwerkz at least for the legend demo, it was very very neutral but it was still able to bring out and highlight all the qualities of a song out without making it seem distorted or forced. That's why I can never forget the first time I tried the demo, that sound signature is just fascinating at least for me.

Hmm, personally I feel that dita has a very strong and unique bass as its bass was tuned in such a way that it mimics a speaker system. But obviously, like you say the bass pales in comparison to the 846 and the ASG.

Interesting that you say that the legend sounds like the dita haha.

Ah, I gotcha. Yeah I think the new "subwoofer-like" technology in the 846 is probably a much stronger bass than the 535. My apologies if I got the 535 signature wrong. I haven't heard one in years and was going off memories that are probably more colored by my ownership of the 846.

Yeah I personally found the DITA to be rather bass-light. I thought the sound signature was very neutral, but I agree with you that the bass that was there was unique in that it was highly detailed and sounded good, even if it wasn't what I was used to with all the bass monsters I'd owned.

I think the Legend R sounds like the DITA in the clarity and detail retrieval in the treble, but with much less harshness and sibilance. It sounds much closer to the AKG K3003 than anything else, but significantly better. I just loved how smooth yet detailed the whole sound signature was. Man, can't wait to get these in my ears again!

One thing I've discovered over time is that the Legend sounds its best with sources with 1 ohm or less output impedance. Anything 3 and over starts to reduce the treble a little, and while the changes are small, less than 1 z lets the Legend retain that pinch of treble magic.

Very good to know. With all the crossovers I guess it's no shock. I thought the Legend R sounded fantastic out of my AK120, but I've been meaning to send it off to Vinnie at Red Wine Audio for the RWAK120 mod.

Jack mentioned you got a Tera player, Shane, and I see it in your signature. How does it compare to the AK240 with the Legend?

The Tera requires a portable amp to get the OI down for most iems. It sounded wonderful with the Tera>Pure2 amp that I had on loan. I just ordered a Cypher Labs Picollo amp to permanently pair with the Tera. I'll let you know how that goes in a few days. But if the pure2 experiment was any indication, I'm going to prefer the Legend on the Tera stack.

Ahh so I am not the only one who feel that the dita sounded very harsh with sibilance on certain genre such as EDM. Which the legend is still able to produce them with much smoothness.

The only thing from my memory that the dita can beat the legend is that it's sound signature is very analogue and speakerish, so if your gonna be listening to live orchestral or classical music the dita will be phenomenon it's like a 5.1 sound system type of sound haha.

But the legend should beat the dita on almost everything as during the demo, it was able to adapt to all the different genres I throw at it and still sounded impressive.

Legend R owners,

Give your Legend Rs a through burn-in to the 300 hours mark.
The improvements from 50 hours and 100 hours are significant (at least to my ears).

For me, the Legend R now is an absolutely stellar of a custom to beat.

Just when you think they reached optimal performance, they get better. Am just wonder how much better can they get at this rate.

Agreed that the DITA had a great "speaker" feel to it. They were great IEMs, no doubt. I'm excited to see what DITA is able to launch in the future for that reason.

Also agreed on the Legend R. When I was auditioning it, I was truly trying to prevent myself from dropping the $1300, and kept throwing the most difficult tracks I could out of my AK120. The Legend was completely unfazed and my wallet suffered. They really were chameleon-like in nature.

Man. The waiting is going to kill me even though it's only 2 weeks. I'll have to burn these in well. For burn in, did you just leave it plugged into a source overnight?

Yup. Was on vacation for a while earlier, daily 12 hours non-stop playing, 12 hours weekends.
Give them a listen when they first arrive, then start the burn-in, listen again at 50 hours mark and work on the burn-in milestones.
For those who don't believe in burn-in? After this, they will.

If it makes you feel better, currently Earwerkz delivers among the fastest turnaround yet maintain the highest quality.
Some other folks on the other threads have to wait anywhere from 2 months to 6 months. We're pretty fortunate here as it is.

Hi EarWerkz family (and lurkers),

If you have been interested in the Legend R that has been mention in this thread, as well as EarWerkz, I have the EarWerkz EP-5 (Penta) Discussion Thread live.  I will be updating the first post as details arrive: http://www.head-fi.org/t/751424/the-earwerkz-penta-ep-5-discussion-thread.

This combo hisses but when it's Pavarotti, it matters not.

So, things didn't work out between EarWerkz and Moon Audio, and EarWerkz decided to go a different route for the time being, but the upside is that EarWerkz lowered their price of the Legend R to accommodate for this (now $1,129.00), and all pre orders of the Legend R and Silver Dragon Cable will be refunded the difference.

Another upside is that the pre-order has left the building, and you can purchase the Legend R now, choosing either the standard EarWerkz cable (50 inch) or the Estron Linum BaX Cable for the same price (choosing EarWerkz 60 inch is $10 more).

Have a great day or night everyone!

Has anyone tried the BaX? I read a few reviews (I think Shotgunshane had a nice one up on Cymbacavum) and it seems like the major benefits are comfort and weight.
