The subbass slam is only a tad bigger, the bigger midbass is more apparent though which can make it sound looser in the bass. The soundstage imaging is on par but the SM2s don't put you right at the stage like the SM3s do which enables projection. On James' chart it will probably be in between the EQ-7 and SM3 (closer to the former) in terms of projection.  The treble is still smooth but also not as even, still not fatiguing nevertheless.

will the midbass on the sm2 much bigger, like for example on the westone w3? i hate those midbass humps. please tell me it is not that big.

Haven't heard the W3 but it's on par with the UM3X's bass which I think is less of a hump than the W3s FWIR.

I don't think anybody sells the V1 SM2s anymore though, neither SoundEarphones nor Earsonics themselves have them in their site. But you could find them for a solid price of 150-200$ via the FS Forums. Otherwise the new V2 SM2s are a good option if you don't want to pay the current high price of the V2 SM3s.

The Sm3 v2 will sound the same?  I thought that the description said that the impedance will be a little different and the sound just a little different because of the new cable?

Ok Never mind.  It talks about its an upgrade to the Sm2 and that it is only getting the new casing and detachable cables.

Sm3v2:

Frequency Response: 20 Hz -18 kHz

Sensitivity: 122 dB/mW

Impedance: 34 ohms

 Where as
Sm3 V1:
3 way passive crossover
20-18,000Hz frequency response
17ohm impedance.

Will this play a large difference?

This is great news! The SM3 are my mobile favorites and they have been experiencing a channel imbalance, I will definitely upgrade to the V2.

Can you compare the two SM3's sonically so we can know if/how much of a difference there is? Then sell off the loser!

This is just the beginning. The longer you stay, the better/(worse) it gets!

To me it is not worth it to spend $130 more for the SM3 just for a new and better shell and detachable cables. I would rather buy the cheaper version SM3 and make into a custom. $430 for the SM3 now? Wow. Might as well buy a lower-costing custom like the 1964-Q.

I would have to agree with you, but apparently it's improved alot more.
