both brands already have 128gb microsd... so choose the cheapest of them all.

I notice no difference in scan time between 2.1.5 and 2.1.8 on a 128GB card with about 6.000 cd rip flac files with embedded art of varying sizes. However it now correctly organizes some files that it didn't before. All files are squeky clean with the minimum tags. Will listen tonight

I'v asked you just about your future modification of 2.1.8 with (a little of) fonts and unused services. Is it possible just now?

Not only possible, but it runs on my DX90 second day already. One day I'll finalize it and publish... if iBasso will not come with a hot fix earlier.

I have 128GB card, but with less number of files, because they are all hi-res, and no embedded art. The scan for me is significantly faster. Probably you don't notice it because for you most of the time is spent on album art resizing.

I am encountering some problems with the new firmware. It will play several songs, then it will stop with a screen only showing "Ready". Anybody else having the same problem?

For now, i am back with Lurker0's firmware. :)

I did all the recommended things but without reformating my sd card:
delete old .img file => emptied the recycle bin => installed firmware (no errors) => factory reset => rescaned library

So far I don't have any issues!
Maybe because I mostly use clean tagged .flac files and I have a san disk memory card which I formatted with the sd card formatter tool only once before I started to use it the first time.
Anyhow It's extremely good to hear that ibasso made such an effort to improve the firmware! Keep up the good job Paul!
I hope you can keep track and are able to document the confirmed issues of the new firmware. Though I can't help because on my side everything seems to be fine, though the fonts are really not friendly for our eyes..

I also notice more or less subtle changes in the sound. But still need more time to discern the differences. So more on that later.

I'v tested before - scanning speed with 2.1.8 is higher. A little but.

Hmmm.  My results are much more aligned with those reported by Lurker0.  My scan time improved dramatically.  When I updated to 2.1.8 yesterday, I timed my scan of the sd card at 7 minutes.  Previously, my scans were 40 minutes.  I changed no music.  I have about 110gb on my sd card of mostly CD rips, a few iTunes purchases, and about a dozen hi-res downloads from HD Tracks.

And :) - what about the air of the sound with the new FW?

@ZverMetel:  My initial sonic observations are noted above, post #11019 on page 735. I currently like the new sound as it seems a bit richer yet, at least with my Pearl Jam Ten Redux 24/88 from HD Tracks, detailed and just -- really good.  I need to listen some more to comment specifically on "air of the sound."  I have a tough time putting what I hear into words, and will have more to say when I have a more extensive listening session the next time I hit the gym, which is where I pretty much exclusively use my portable source gear.
