I use my DX90 in the dark as well and I noticed that the backlight is not totally off as well.

Phew, thought it was just for my unit.

Have just played around with this. It only happens if display light is set to 0, with any setting above 0 the back light turns completely off. Strange

Because of your post I went to play with it and found that there could be negative brightness, and goes all the way down to -6, for which the backlight turns off completely. Now my problem is 'solved', will set anything other than 0 brightness.

Where are you guys setting this?

On mine, under Settings>Advanced>Display I've got a slider which seems to go from 0 up to around 270. Currently mine is set at about 180. Even in a room totally bereft of light I see nothing coming off the screen when turned off.

Just wondering if the DX90 uses the same firmware as the DX50? And if so/not does anyone know when firmware updates are to be expected.

It just seems that a few people are having some small problems similar to when the DX50 was released... and of course I'm considering buying one ha

iBasso is supposed to be coming out with a new FW in a week or so. To address using the DX90 as a dac and maybe a few other things. I gather this from what I have read. The DX50 and DX90 FW are different due to the different CPU that the DX90 uses.

A week? More like 3 days. They said so. I only say this jokingly though, because iBasso is notably awful at being timely with their firmware updates.

I Guess thats that. SAD !

The SAD part is that you realize that after $430.

I think you just need to burn your DX90 in. My first listen of mine didn't sound good, bloated bass, recessed treble and small congested sound stage. But even after 24hrs burning in its sounding ten fold better, and I suspect it could improve with even further burning in to.

Well with all the sfx he had enabled on his computer I bet he's is used to and preferred a different kind of sound.  Probably make more sense for him to sell it like new in box asap to recoup his investment.  No point in getting an audiophile dap but doesn't enjoy this type of sound.

It goes to show there is no better or worse when it comes to comparing audio gears especially the mid to top tiers. Only the individual person can really tell what is better or not for him. We have different influences, background and preferences which heavily affects how we judge what we hear.

I'll bet there are people who still like the sound coming out of an iPod classic than any of the audiophile DAPs.
