If Amp9 hisses through my Shure SE846 but Amp1 doesn't, can anyone tell me if it's likely that Amp7 or Amp8 would hiss or not?
thanks
Nick

AMP9 hisses cause of the tubes. AMP8 is balanced so there should be no hiss. Not 100% sure on AMP7.
You would also need a balanced cable for AMP8

Hi Nick,
I have the SE846 paired with AMP8 (Amp8EX-FE to be precise) and there is no hiss, i can recommend this pairing.

Just added the Amp9 to my collection, and I'm getting hissing with my CA IEMs. Waiting on iEMatch to arrive to see if it tames it. This is my first foray into tube amps, so I'm going to give it a while to burn in as well. Not jumping to any conclusions, but I'd say that the initial impression with Amp9 is a let down. First listen with Amp8 on same IEMs was better...

I wasn't happy with the Amp 9 either, sounded good when little or no hiss but the tube hiss was to much on many of my earphones.
Currently using the limited edition 8EX and couldn't be happier.

It's really annoying - I'd only read good things of the 9. I'm not at all blaming any reviewers - they can only report what they hear with the equipment they have. It's the drawback of not being able to try things out before you buy. And, in my case, buying cheaper from somewhere I can't return it to if I don't like it.

When you don't get the hiss the AMP9 can be very good. At times I prefer it over the Ultimate AMP8. Am very interested how a Ultimate moded AMP9 would compare.
Would of been nice if they could of add an AMP9 option for the Max.

Amp 9 and my CA Solaris were a no go for me, too much hiss. With the CA Atlas it was ok. iEMatch will help with the hiss but I don't like having more doohickeys in my chain than necessary.

for me AMP9 is better pair with easy too drive Headphone... that is the sweet spot...
for IEM pairing, so far fitear EST pair well with AMP9, minimum HISS...
And yes, add ifi earbuddy or IEmatch really help the Hiss

So far, the burn-in folder with a 3 DSD, 7 FLAC, and 5 32bit WAV files gets me 5hr 10min run time.
Using all FLAC files is getting me 6hr 20min.
100% down to 2% on the battery.

Should I be happy??
I own my dx220 for about half a year and i use flac, wav an aiff only. And inittialy it would only last me over 6 hours. But now its closer to 8 as after 6hrs use i have 25% left or so. God knows why. I use it 3-6hrs 5-6 days a week with Ultimate amp8

The hiss on AMP9 never bothers me but using any amp module DX220's not good on full can.
Even with the low impedance D9200 it didn't sound too good. I find DX220 to be a portable
dap having good synergy with most of IEMs, not with hard to drive HP. Even the pico amp
couldn't revive the sound but may be WA11, yes.
