The DC01 can be used out of any USB C port for digital to audio conversion so it works well with a computer or phone.

I notice the bass on the AMP9 is better than I expected. I was listening to a bass line and it was hard to describe it. Not heavy but solid on full and it is like flowing down a river of bass, it flows with the music. The sound is very open and deep. Different from the other AMPs so a nice variety. Portable tube, cool.

I completely agree on the bass. It's most impressive. The best I've yet heard from any of these AMP modules.

So what can a listener expect if they were to change from the stock amp on the DX220 to the AMP8 (apart from the 4.4mm connector?)
Low freq (bass) Emphasize.
IMO, AMP1Mk2 delivered good detail bass even rumble, AMP8 can boost that but not to the level of Bass Head wanted :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.
for me, AMP8 is not WARM...
When Listening to AMP8 for more then 2 weeks, I realized that my cup of tea changes... I seek for MID... and I can tell you AMP1Mk2 Mid is unique...
Well, take this as grain of salt, from a guy who use to love V-Shaped....

I am trying to decide on DX220 or QP2R. I would use the DX220 only with the Mango OS as I do not need the other stuff although being able to stream Tidal would be good if I ever get a subscription. Any advice from those that have both or have heard both?

Got a sample of the AMP9. Sounds funky at first, soft bass and not transparent or dynamic, an hour in, things really change, 2 hours in and very beautiful sound. Dynamic, transparent and big.

John, my biggest reservation with amp9 was that the SE output might reign in the soundstage.

How is amp9's soundstage compared to amp8, esp. width?

Interesting - I posted a few hours back in the DX220 FW thread a question to Paul regarding the upcoming FW to support the AMP9 module and asked what else might be included. I also requested a priority on a few items near and dear to me and others as well.

He has not responded there yet but I don't see any of the things I was hoping would be addressed noted above.

We shall see...

Cheers,
Tim

I gave your request to the software team and it will be looked at. I don't have an answer for you right now.

Setting 2 on the digital filters works very well with AMP9.

Play time is about the same as AMP1 MKII for AMP9.
