And It’s not? I think Sansa with Rockbox is TOTL :L3000:
Nothing wrong with sansa with rockbox. I still have one and use it sometimes. Small and light

Got a sample of the AMP9. Sounds funky at first, soft bass and not transparent or dynamic, an hour in, things really change, 2 hours in and very beautiful sound. Dynamic, transparent and big. Using the Focal Stellia right now, Around 135 on the volume but a little too loud so down to 130. Normal warmth to touch on the DX220. The glow of the tubes on the back of the amp is cool. With IEMs, the IT04, no hiss but can hear hiss from the tape of the recording if it is there, as I would detect on the stats as well, so the AMP9 is quiet. Also no problems with tapping on the DX220, they really, really dampened the Korg tubes well. Great stuff!

That is what I am expecting from amp9. Can’t wait to have it to try on DX220 and DX200TI for comparison. :smile_phones: Thank @jamato8!

So what can a listener expect if they were to change from the stock amp on the DX220 to the AMP8 (apart from the 4.4mm connector?)

Fact is BA drivers were made for hearing aids for voice. A studio engineer will not use a BA driver.

You are incorrect.

Balanced armature drivers have been around since the 1920s primarily in headphones used with crystal radios.

Knowles did not appear on the scene until 1946 and they did not develop BAR's for hearing aids until 1954.

More stuff from iBasso today!

Interesting to find AMP9 does not work with the old DX200. Or maybe it just needs a firmware update. Or maybe I just couldn't get it seated properly. Either way, my original plan was to use the DX200 to burn-in AMP9. But instead, I got to enjoy it with DX220 this evening.

And the sound? Holy ***t! Right out of the box, it's jaw-dropping good!

I don't know much about this DC01. But it's clearly a DAC, which means it has nothing to do with AMP9. It has a USB Type-C end, and a full-size USB adapter that fits over that. It's a BALANCED DAC. So I believe the headphone output is 2.5mmTRRS.

I'll certainly look further into it.

@PinkyPowers thanks, I would say it's a DAC/amp aimed at Android owners with USB-C phones. It should be a massive sonic upgrade based on the DAC chip used. Can you also ask output impedance?

The DC01 can be used out of any USB C port for digital to audio conversion so it works well with a computer or phone.

I notice the bass on the AMP9 is better than I expected. I was listening to a bass line and it was hard to describe it. Not heavy but solid on full and it is like flowing down a river of bass, it flows with the music. The sound is very open and deep. Different from the other AMPs so a nice variety. Portable tube, cool.

The paperwork says it is designed for Android phones and Windows and Mac PCs. And it is indeed outputting to 2.5mm balanced.
