I've edited the previous post several times, slowly understanding the source of the problem. Please re-read to be sure you have read the latest version. Sorry!

Edit: I've just seen your latest post. Will re-read.

I tried with Win32 Disk Imager only under WinXP, and it worked fine. But in the drop down list there were two choices for one removable drive: for the card reader (first) and SD card in it (second), and I used the second, with the drive letter.

Moreover, this image was created with Disk Imager, so it must work, being used correctly.
Hmmm, I was using Win32 Disk Imager under Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) but I don't think it'll matter. I'm using a 64GB SanDisk card. I have an Image File for input (which I put the sdupdate.img), and a Device (where G: is the MicroSD)

Win32DI.jpg

With dd, you need to write to the disk device, not to the partition on it, i.e. to /dev/sdc and not to /dev/sdc1.

Strictly speaking - yes, it is not bootable, because it is physical disk image, not logical disk (partition) image. Physical disk image starts with a partition table, not a boot sector. OK, with HDDs, the MBR contains both partition table and initial boot code. But, obviously, this boot code is useless for ARM CPU :)

Being correctly written, the resulting SD card should show (using a good disk manager) 165MB of "unused space" (ARM boot code), and then one almost 4GB FAT32 partition labeled "DX200UPDATE". Then can be unused space for a card larger than 4GB.
About the file disk device on MacOS, the devices are marked as /dev/disk1, etc. Partitions are marked as /dev/disk1s1.

In my case the MicroSD is mounted as /dev/disk7 and that's where my of= is set. So my dd command is :-

bash-3.2# dd if=./sdupdate.img of=/dev/disk7
273540+1 records in
273540+1 records out
140052952 bytes transferred in 66.450136 secs (2107640 bytes/sec)
bash-3.2#

However unmounting/ejecting, and remounting, it says it's unreadable :-

Unreadable.jpg

I'll continue to play around more....I wanna get it working in one OS first just to ensure the integrity of the files, etc. When confirmed then I wanna try in the other OS.

Have you read that I've put wrong link to SD card image file (DX200FirmwareUpdater.zip), and I have corrected it? You are trying to write firmware image to SD card (sdupdate.img)!
Yes as such my comment in the previous post :-

Edit: I've just seen your latest post. Will re-read.

And I also checked out your rcslogs in your README.md :D.

Now it looks much better!!

bash-3.2# dd if=./DX200FirmwareUpdater.img of=/dev/disk7
337792+0 records in
337792+0 records out
172949504 bytes transferred in 84.146536 secs (2055337 bytes/sec)
bash-3.2# diskutil list
/dev/disk7 (external, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: FDisk_partition_scheme *63.9 GB disk7
1: DOS_FAT_32 DX200UPDATE 3.8 GB disk7s1

MacOS Mojave - via Etcher
This is a little safer than using the CLI dd method as with dd, if you get the wrong device, well you could just wipeout your MacOS boot disk :D

Pre-requisites
a. Download & install Etcher
b. Download & unzip DX200FirmwareUpdater.zip
c. Download & unzip iBasso’s Oreo

Install Steps
  1. Run the balenaEtcher app
  2. Select Image DX200FirmwareUpdater.img
  3. Select Drive (Pick your microSD card) & Continue
  4. Select Flash!
  5. Enter your MacOS privileged password
  6. Exit balenaEtcher app
  7. Physically eject microSD and reinsert
  8. MicroSD should mount as DX200UPDATE
  9. Doubleclick into DX200UPDATE
  10. Open another Finder window
  11. Navigate to the unzipped iBasso Oreo (c) above
  12. Go to DX200-Android8.1-Beta-V2/DX200-Android8.1-Beta-V2
  13. Copy update.img to the DX200UPDATE finder window
  14. Right-click the sdupdate.img (Zero bytes) and Move to Bin
  15. Right-click update.img and Rename to sdupdate.img
  16. Eject the DX200UPDATE MicroSD from Finder
  17. Switch off the DX200
  18. Put the DX200UPDATE MicroSD into the DX200
  19. Power on the DX200
  20. The DX200 should be “Installing system update”
  21. It takes just over 3 mins. The first 50% fo the bar is fast, but the remaining 50% of the bar is slower. It’s not hanging
  22. When it finishes, it’ll say :-
    Supported API: 3
Doing Actions succeeded.please remove the sdcard……
  23. Remove the MicroSD and it’ll auto boot
  24. You now have iBasso's Oreo
For Lurker0's USB Audio/HiByMusic Plug-in
  1. Download and unzip Lurker's DX200-A8.1-L1.12-sdupdate.zip
  2. Go in there and copy his sdupdate.img (140,052,952 bytes) into the DX200UPDATE
  3. It's ok to overwrite the iBasso's Oreo sdupdate.img (or rename the iBasso's Oreo to whatever, up to you)
  4. Eject and follow the same procedures above steps 17-20
  5. This time however, the update is very quick < 1 min
  6. Eject the MicroSD and let your DX200 reboot
  7. Upon coming up Android would say it's updating
  8. When finish you should have Lurker0's USB Audio, Magisk Manager, & HibyMusic (Lurker)

Does anyone use the DX200 lineout to a balanced desktop amp? To run balanced, I think you are limited to the Amp 3 balanced out or just using the balanced HO of any of the other amp modules and maxing out the volume to mimick a lineout (although this would be double amping I think). I would prefer to just use the 4.4mm balanced HO of Amp 8 rather than buy an Amp 3 just for the balanced lineout. Any thoughts on this?

I had been using this for a long time, Amp8 balanced out with max volume into balanced in on my SuSy. It sounds even better than Amp3 balanced line out

Exactly what I was hoping to hear! I'd really prefer not to have to switch amp modules just to use line out to another amp. Did you use a 4.4mm male to dual 3 pin xlr cable to connect to you balanced amp? That is what I need and this cable doesn't appear to be very common.

Nope, it is not common :). But you can custom order it

@Whitigir, how much do you gain from going line out of amp8 into your desktop amp? I’ve compared DX208 to my full desktop rig and I’ve gone digital out to my desktop DAC to desktop amp. However, I’ve never tried DX208 straight into my Moon 430. Is it worth the trouble of making the cable and extra setup over straight out of amp8?

Campfire Audio Solaris, Symbio Peel(ed) Mandarines tips, CA 4.4mm super litz cable, iBasso DX200 with Amp8.
What's your impression of Solaris with Amp8. Based on what I read about Solaris, it's sort of like a new word in IEM world!
