DUNU DK-2001 - 3 BA + 1 beryllium DD hybrid: the long-awaited follow-up to the DN-2000 and DN-2000J!

Hey DUNU-Topsound! Could you give me your opinion on the DK-2001 vs the DN-2002? Would you consider it an evolution of the 2002? Honestly I still haven't been able to hear either yet, but I'm hoping to purchase one of these two soon. The DN-2002's frequency response is probably the best I've ever seen for my particular sound sig lol. Thanks!

Sq wise I cannot compare for you because I have not heard the 2002. After looking at the photos of the DK2002, it appears that they have the share similarities in shell design with the DK-3001 I reviewed. The other thing I noticed was the DK2002 includes the older cable system. I was not happy with the fit of the DK-3001 and the DK2002 looks eerily similar. The fit of the DK-2001 has been thankfully retooled. The comfort is leaps and bounds above the older design, to my ears. The cable system included with the DK-2001 is the quick switch type of system to allow you to switch connectors without removing the cables, thus offering convenience and saves on wear and tear on the connection slots. I can totally endorse the DK-2001 from all aspects.

DUNU is becoming a major player in the market.

The SQ of the DK-2001 is full and rich. The bass is snappy and impactful with a moderate decay, DD bass coming in with a 13 mm driver. 1 mid-high BA and 2 ultra-high BA's balance out the sound.

Personally, and I am good at spending other's money, but I would go for the latest technology. You certainly can guarantee that the DK-2001 will perform at a level higher than the $299 price tag.

Yesterday I could hear the Oriolus Reborn and the Acoustune hs1670ss. I didn't make a direct comparison because I didn't have much time, but I trust my auditory memory with the week I've been listening to dk2001.

The oriolus reborn has the mids at a very similar distance than the dk2001, the difference is that the Oriolus has more meat and its means are richer and more addictive, but at the level of details I would say that they are very close, even the dk2001 in this section It sounds somewhat clearer but at the expense of the richness of the oriolus. The bass of the oriolus also pursues the style of its mids, they are large, close and hit with authority but they maintain a good general control, and here I get the feeling that the dunu is more honest and does not saturate the bass so much to maintain an equal sound of controlled but cleaner in general. In terms of treble, the oriolus has them present but softened like silk, the dunu sounds a bit thinner here but I feel that the level of separation and air they achieve is at a very similar, but again the dunu sounds lighter and somewhat refreshing.

With regard to Acoustune, these do make a clearer difference. They are fast, very fast, they resolve details much more easily, they have a higher level of transparency. The bass sounds tight all the time and reproduces more information across the spectrum. The mids here moves a little more back than the oriolus and the dunu, but they are cleaner and more natural. The highs here shine and have a better extension, granting a new level of spatiality and separation.

I feel that the dunu is at a similar technical level than the Oriolus. With the Acoustune it does mark a bigger gap, but it is not like a day and night either, I can go back to the dunu and continue enjoying it all the time. The dk2001 remains at a very good level compared to these significantly more expensive iem, and that is appreciated.

With a day of use, I feel that it is a pretty bright sound but at the same time with the meat necessary to make it sound complete, the treble are not so friendly here, they are like ninja knives but I like it haha, maybe they will soften with the use time.

The DK-2001 is certainly not dark sounding, but we did our best to avoid sibilance and harshness. If you feel brightness with the stock silicone tips is an issue, give the included foam tips a try. Also, even though they're not included as part of the kit, the SpinFit CP145 tips are a good choice for controlling top end brightness for a number of people.

The DK-2001 takes the technical achievements of the DK-3001 and DN-2000J and adopts them to the V-shaped response of the DN-2000. The DN-2002 was designed as an offshoot of the DN-2000, meant to have a signature with more oomph in the low end. The DK-2001 is not bass light, but it does not focus on bass. It is meant to be an all-rounder with a tiny bit of added sizzle. The dual dynamic woofer technique of the DN-2002 has been adapted to the full-range dual dynamic driver of the DM-480, so if you're looking for that low end presence, the DM-480 is a more suitable choice.

Glad we 'redeemed' ourselves this time around! :beerchug:

The DK-3001 PRO and DK-4001 were the models designed for richer sounding mids --- but glad you're getting along well with the DK-2001!

The DN-2000j was my first proper IEM and it got me into this audiophile hobby. It was recommended by the good people on this site.

Little did I know the pain my wallet would go through there after in this hobby...

In the hierarchy of head-fi, ears >> wallets!

Dear Dunu. Do you have any other UK dealers apart from HiFiHeadphones.co.uk? The reason I ask is that out of the 20 models they list on their site, 18 are out of stock!

http://www.hifiheadphones.co.uk/dunu.html

Pretty piss poor I'm sure you'll agree.

Yes, rather. They haven't ordered from us in quite some time. Advanced MP3 Players also carries some stock. The best way to remedy this situation is to inquire with them and ask if they intend on carrying more products from us. We welcome rapprochement.

AMP3 has 10 items, 4 of which are customer returns that they call "Open Box" deals. Why not sell on Amazon.co.uk? As long as you can take the UK VAT off for non UK residents like myself, as I live in Jersey, Channel Islands.

I'd love to try the dunu 2000, 3000 and 4000. From what I've read they look like exceptional good value for the money

I would not say that the dk2001 has a V signture because the mids feel much closer than my Falcon C for example, maybe it would be something U-shaped or W-shaped, i am not very sure ... Definitely the sound signature is very attractive.

We've been looking into this. The vast majority of the time, we avoid encroaching on distributor territory. In this case, they've been remiss about carrying our products, so the situation is an exception.
