Do my Senn HD 598s need the Fiio e9 with the e7 or will the e7 suffice by itself?

I know that the 598s need amping, but not as much so my question is will they work by themselves and the Fiio e7 dac/amp or will I benefit more if I use the e7/e9 combo?  Or will the e9 be considered overkill?

The E7 alone is fine, though I have to note that on my Sansa Fuze, I had to pretty much max out my E7 to get the HD598 loud enough for my taste. On my E7/E9 combo hooked up to my laptop, the HD598 actually needs almost as much volume on the pot as the K701, DT990/600, and DT770/600 I had. So either I'm crazy, or it's pretty damn insensitive.

Seem like everyone is getting curious of this post lol

The only reason I'm curious is because I'm considering trading up my 598s into the 650s but first I want to find out if my 598s can be max'd with the e7s, or there true potential is unlocked with the e9.  Also on that note, is the e9 enough to full amp the 650s?  Because I know the 650s are monsters amp eaters and since they're 300 ohms they need a serious desktop amp and since the e9 maxes cans upto 600ohms will they work with the 650?  Because the e7 says it amps upto 300ohms, but from what I hear that number is higher than it should be.

I've had the HD598 and an e7 setup for awhile now and just got the e9. The e9 drives the HD598 better than the e7....and in my opinion is worth the $96 I spent on amazon for the e9. Overall it improved clarity and gave the 598's a little more punch which is exactly what I was looking for. The e9 is still burning-in but it already has impressed me. Keep the e7 so you can use it has a portable DAC and dock it in the e9.

...on a side note, I have an HD600 showing up tomorrow...which is the primary reason I got the e9. Hoping the e9/e7 will sound good with the HD600.

hey, how about fiio e10, lovely sound in my hd595. It's more complete function, dac+amp and you would love to save your money.

Only difference in my case is I am using HD595's and have HD 650's on the way.

Tag.  Just got my 598s and they sound fine out of the computer/Droid X/iPod Touch on their own, but I am curious about amping them....

I thought the same with my 595's until I got an e7. Big difference. Then when I got the e9 to go with. Another jump in SQ. It was worth it IMO.

Yes, they are easy to drive. But...if you ever decide to upgrade headphones you'll need an amp. For the money I think the e9 is a great place to start.

So, aside from being a dock for the E7, the E9 sounds better as well?  If I don't plan to use the 598 portably, I could just go with an E9 and be fine?

My listening setup right now is:

iPod/Droid X -> 598

or at the desk:

Creative X-fi Fatal1ty -> Logitech G51 -> 598
