To be honest, I think the best option out there for the money now, is gunna be the Modi and Magni from Schiit. I own the Asgard, and the Magni is a smaller version, but is apparantly on par or is basically a cheaper replacement for the Asgard.

I just sold my ODAC to replace it with the Modi, and there has been reviews of the O2/ODAC compared to Magni and Modi, they said it sounded the same basically so go with the cheaper better looking(imo) route.

Wow, Modi/Magni saves me a $100! Do they drive D5000 well?

Picked up a set of MD5000DE's the other day, so far so good :)

It seems the copper in the re-cable is oxidising, will this affect the performance at all? See in attached pic.

Overall, I loving it for most music. The Yulong D100 II is doing a good job with them.

LA-2000 as in Lawton Audio fully Modded Denon AH-D2000? If so then yes it will be a leap of a difference in bass overall, cant comment on anything else besides an overall improvement. The Denon line is easy to drive, so even your phone can drive it. So yes the Xonar could easily. Thats not to say the sound wont improve with a good dedicated amp and DAC, but it will be acceptable unless comparing to higher end stuff.
