9200 more natural sounding.how would you compare sony Z1R to denon
no better to ask than my bro Jmills who can audition any headphones and share real impressions, I think I am gonna buy the denon 9200 soon9200 more natural sounding.
Then buy what you think is best.I was stunned by the Sony’s capacity to play challenging base, try: Muse, Madness or Tony Allen & Jeff Mills, Locked And Loaded for instance; the Sony has capacity to play at volumes well beyond levels my Denon D7200 is capable of achieving without distortion, which means significantly beyond anything of a similar budget. I think the Sony ZR1 would provide anyone who loves base with hours of thrills. Alas, my budget allows for only one additional set of cans and I’m considering a planar magnetic purchase for something new, perhaps the Meze Empyrean. I played both the Denon and Sony headphones through my ifi Pro iDSD & ifi Pro iCAN rig. That combo is easy to summarise: Shock and Awe! I may yet buy the Sony headphones...
The Sony is much more bloated in the lower end, while the 9200 is very tight and punchy
The Z1R definitely has a boosted mid-bass and its highs are a bit metallic sounding, but with the right DAC/amp combo, they can sound pretty damn good. The Sony is much more bloated in the lower end, while the 9200 is very tight and punchy
D9200 then. D7200 is way too colored, especially midrange. The treble is on the darker side and bass is definitely boosted. It's a headphone for "fun".

I would have to agree with skootb. Just last week I had some extra time waiting for my ED8 to be nodded with removable cables so I tested out the Z1R on its dedicated dac/amp. I was very surprised when I heard the bloated bass. I forget the song but it was with the shop's quality recording.Surely blanket statements like this beg the honest question, what DAC / Amp did you use to compare them?
I wouldnt consider the 7200 as a great headphone. To me its an ok headphone.I would agree your view 100% if the comparison was Sony’s MDR-Z7 vs Denon’s D7200. My neighbour has at least a dozen headphones, including the Z7, and I listened to those headphones again this morning, sharing your views. I don’t particularly like the Z7 cans at all! I really dislike its bloated base. And I much prefer my D7200. But I strongly agreed with Currawong’s favourable assessment of the Z1 (see http://wwa.you2repeat.com/watch/?v=oKmHSCC6_8U ). Perhaps the D9200 really is that different to the D7200?
