I tried the Pola again today, though it was a different, less-burned-in unit, so make of that what you will. I agree that you can't listen to this IEM at low volumes (it doesn't have anything going for it, and it's really bad), but even at higher volumes (above what I'd normally listen to), I thought it was just a dark, unimpressive IEM.

I also tried the three Hylas (first time with the TE-5B/TE-5T, heard the CE-5 a number of times before). I always liked the CE-5, though I felt that it was a very specialist IEM. The TE-5B takes that a bit further (IMO too much) with the lower end bump, while the TE-5T is a specialist IEM in a very different way. In a vacuum, I'd say CE-5 > TE-5B > TE-5T, though I could see myself preferring the treble tuned one for certain songs. I don't think I'd ever choose the TE-5B over the CE-5.

Design wise, I prefer the CE-5 to the new models, while the PW audio cables on the TE-5B/TE-5T are much nicer than the CE-5 stock cable. If Hyla ever decided to re-release the CE-5 (perhaps with the newer cable?), I'd be really tempted to get it.

Totally agree with you about the hyla. Where did u tried the pola?

I am looking for canary nightingale and mockingbird.

The local Shozy distributor had them in for a bit, though they’re out of stock now (and probably won’t be getting more - something about the MOQ being too high...). The second time I tried it was with someone’s review unit.

Shozy and AAW have different distributors here, so I haven’t heard anything about the new AAW models yet unfortunately.

Thinking of biting the bullet on MDR-7550........... lost my ex1000's a few years back, and fx700s...fx850s.......fxz200s............ugh.

been on a longgggg cheapo hiatus, 10 dollar pairs here and there. All accounted for! I think it's time to get back in the game.

unamped, phone source. Looking at the 7550's or the XB90ex's. Are the7550's are fine un-amped? leaning towards the xb90ex's because of the price but I think I'm ready. Was recommended the Headstage Arrow 5TX as well (perhaps down the road).

Thanks!

Have you seen xb90ex prices since they were discontinued?

Haven't had 7550, but for something easy to drive at a similar price could consider the Sony N3 also (now that I think about it, the N3 sig reminds me a bit of a "refined" xb90, though if you are trying to push a lot of subbass I don't think it will get quantity of xb90 or quality the 7550 probably can, if 7550 is anything like ex1000).

Then again, maybe better to stick with budget choices

I have the EX800ST currently and they sound ok unamped

Amped better tho

However it’s still at burn in period so it sounds muddy & veiled

hahaha, Yes. Typing all my R.I.P. IEMS in one sentence hurts. I don't think I've listed them all out in one go before. I'm reaching the line where a portable amp may be necessary, partly because I can't power the hd6xx's to it's full potential. Buying an amp would open some possibilities for sure, might be harder to lose as well

Considering the N3 as well, but I am looking for pushing lot's of quality sub-bass, also haven't really tried a balanced armature iem yet. You are right, for some reason I was thinking the xb90ex's were around 100 but now that they are discontinued that mark up is insane.

have you heard ex1000's for comparison? Was hoping the ex800st's were similar to the beautiful airiness of the ex1000's but learning towards the lower frequencies a bit. Soundstage is still amazing on the ex800st's?

Appreciate the replies, thanks!

No, I have not heard the EX1000 but am sorely disappointed w the EX800ST due to how veiled/muddy they sound. Stage is wide tho, no question about that (unless you vent mod).

Sadly I now don’t have much regard for the EX1000 considering it’s the “bigger brother”. Still shocked it’s ranked in the same tier as other IEM’s. Big thanks to @toranku for helping w the EQ; it sounds more tolerable but will be putting them up for sale :s

Really Oxygen is not a dark IEM. It has beatiful well controlled bass, but also delicious mid and gentle high. A very pleasant signature. Vocal are good, better female than masculine. Soundstage is sufficient with good distinction of each instrument. For sure is not comparable to Andromeda, but I like intimate IEM as my preferred music is non-orchestral jazz, electronic and alternative pop or rock.

I also own the Oxygen and consider it to be one of the most satisfying and enjoyable IEM's I have owned.
