Cowon Plenue P1

Because of the components that they are used. They put battery consuming but good sounding things it. So it is a gain from one place and lose from another. Look at the high end daps in the market. Almost none of them passes over 10 hours.

^THIS. IMO 10hr is actually good for audiophile level sound with "just" a 3000mAh battery. It's always a tricky game between sound, battery life, heat, size, and price when we come to DAP design. Can't really have them all.

HM901/802 is the closest to the perfection, a little too thick and a little too short on battery life but nothing huge. After all these times I am still considering HM802 w/balanced card (I think the sound of HM802 would be more appealing to me rather than HM901).

AK240 on the other hand is another one but with that price tag, they have to deliver it to my home with a special jet or something. That product worth a bit higher than HM901's price IMO, nothing more and definitely nothing like 2.5k.

AK240 worth should be more than a bit higher compared to HM901 IMO.
The build quality materials far exceeds the HM901 and inclusion of wifi and bluetooth plus a much better UI, streaming support and battery usage adds quite a bit.
If HM901 is around $1200, then a $1700-2000 would be more appropriate. $2500 is pushing it lol
But as all head fiers, there won't be shortage of buyers.

The AK120 ii might fit the bill also, while being 20-30% less then its big brother...

Or just get the HM650, which according to some beta testers, is very close to the 802 sonically, minus some features (like USB DAC, stepped attenuator etc). ETA is sometime in July.

You are forgetting some elements in this equation. The 901 sounds better (IMO), it is more powerful, and more versatile with changeable amp cards....so prices could be comparable.

Sounding better is subjective though since just as you think 901 sounds better, I know some who also thinks 240 sounds better.
But a more powerful amp and the versatility is a plus for the 901, with the trade off for a poorer battery life though.

Anyone ordered this from export drive yet? These are in stock now.

hmm it has 3000mAh battery, about the same as current top end smartphones. Play time seems quite low for that, maybe the rated value is for DSD/something battery consuming and we might get little bit more with flac?

I still could not get cowon to answer me but their local seller just recently got to test the cowon sample unit that they had for a day, they still have not secure a unit for their own store audition, I highly doubt the export drive folks have any instock, it is just not possible.

Did you manage to get him to give his impression and comparisons? :D

I forgot to ask him but he probably did not have enough make their mind up. They are expecting to get a proper demo unit for extended usage sometimes in July. They have accepted my request to crash in their store for few hours and test the unit.

I am excited, I really have a good feeling with this one, I have never been excited about a DAP, this a first.

lol and what would that make the teraplayer?

We spend too much time justifying and persuading others why mp3 player costs 1000usd or more... and we continue to take up the inflated price and persuade some more....LoL end rant
