Someone must have done a deal to get a batch lot for cheap.

Well, HD800s in China can be fairly easily obtained for less than $1000 new. It may also have something to do with how popular the Chord Hugo (and the HD800) is in China.

On the other hand, the Chord Hugo TT is $6400 in China and the QBD76 is $7200.

That's strange...the Taobao store I bought it from says they're imported from Japan.

Perhaps it's possible that the dealer price in Japan is that cost? A lot of Taobao stores in China sell *barely* above dealer cost.

Have you ever tried to open your hugo to see if it's exactly as internet's images

Too bad if they're just clones

Well, I did actually take my Hugo to my audio dealer, who has the Chord Hugo for the "official" Chinese price of 12,000RMB, which I believe is still something like $1935. As far as I can tell, it sounds identical and looks identical.

Also looks identical from the viewing window to Internet images, but I have no plans to open up the device and risk damaging it in the process.

Thanks, I think I'll order one from them :D.
Did you receive it new and in its seal ?

Yes.

By the way, I checked Amazon Japan, the price on Amazon Japan is 218,000 yen, which according to exchange rates, is about $1800.

If I remember correctly, I remember that when I went to Japan last year, people who have a Chinese bank account can buy stuff from that big store in Akihabara (sp?) for both a discount AND not have to pay tax either. I imagine then that if you account for both, its not unreasonable that the Chord Hugo could be obtained for around $1400-$1500, and bear in mind that the Chinese currency has been devaluating recently.

Hi, I'm planing to buy a Chord Hugo, I found this dealer on taobao, and the hugo price is quite good (about 1400$)

Do you guys think it's legit ?

I really recommend that you use an 'official' Dealer/Distributor when buying the Chord Hugo as you will get full Warranty protection/cover, not something to scrimp on when you're investing your hard earned cash.

please contact Chord's China Distributor in the first instance as they will only be to happy advise you, links below, hth:-

Hello,

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the best way to connect a Chord Hugo to PMC twotwo.6 active speakers? I can use RCA or headphone out (to XLR) as far as I can tell.

Also, does it make any difference whether the output volume is pre-set (using power-on + crossfade) or adjustable?

Thank you.

You can use any of the outputs – it's all the same path.

The preset volume is just a preset (to ~3 volts max.), but you can choose any other setting instead without any loss of accuracy (I wouldn't go below dark blue, though, in the interest of S/N ratio).

I'm slightly perplexed. The manual states:

To reset back to standard volume output, press and hold the crossfeed switch whilst turning on again.

Wouldn't manually adjusting the volume achieve this too??
