The Roon core sends the streams to the Roon endpoints. The Roon remote software on iOS/Mac/etc... doesn't have the data stream pass through that device prior to streaming to the Roon endpoint. So, you can close the Roon remote on let's say your iPad and open Roon remote on your computer without interruption. The stream is going straight from the Roon core to the endpoint. This is regardless of using Qobuz, Tidal, etc...

MConnect is different. I'm pretty sure that if you are using DLNA from a DLNA server to DLNA endpoint, the stream goes from server to endpoint without going through MConnect itself. If you are using Tidal or Qobuz, MConnect is sending the data stream to your endpoint.

That's why in the OP case it's easy to answer his question. If he closes MConnect and the sound stops, the data stream goes through MConnect.
It's true that if you kill mconnect the sound stops. However, it doesn't if you kill 8Player while playing, nor if you disconnect iPad from the network while playing with mconnect.
network.

Cheers all. I was afraid I wouldn't get any discussion 👍

The sound does stop when I close Mconnect but I wondered if that was due to the music stream being closed or if it was a 'control' signal saying stop the stream because the user has closed me.

I just though of a way to checkthrough my TP-Link app. Will come back to you.

I'm really happy with the sound quality, I just wanted to understand exactly what's going on.

I'm interested also, although it doesn't really matter as long as it works... I also thought about looking at my router to see if I could tell where the data was transferring to/from although I'm not 100% sure I can see that much detail (Asus Merlin)...

Frustratingly I've found the same.

The Deco app doesn't pick up any traffic to or from the Poly via Tidal or the Uniti Core on my network.

Grrrr.

Thanks for the confirmation and clear explanation.

A few strange problems with my Poly. When I use Rigelian (my preferred app) I am now unable to see any of the music files loaded on my card. I swapped with card with another card and got the same results. I then tried both Mconnect and 8 Player (both of which I haven’t used for a while) and both of those apps cap off at 25 folders almost as if they are trial versions. For my main card, I deleted and had the Poly rebuild all the non-music files (mpd.db, dlna-sdfree.dat, etc.) via refreshing the card. I deleted and downloaded the apps, and other workarounds, but nothing seemed to work. Any suggestions on a fix?

I see that Rigelian was updated a week ago. There is Chord Poly mentioned in change log, maybe the improvement is not really an improvement ;)
As paying customer ask them directly.
They do have reporting a problem page: https://www.rigelian.net/report-a-bug/

My Poly died. I’m from Poland and it will go on warranty to UK. I’m hopping it will be less that one month of waiting time ;)

What format are your files? There is an AIFF indexing issue with Poly. MPDluxe works.

I also couldn't load any files in Rigelian, having not used it for a while. After deleting and reinstalling the app it is now working. I don't have any problem with mconnect.

Thanks for the replies:

The files on my card are a mix of AIFF and FLAC. Neither are visible:
Card in Mac:

Card in Poly:

And this is after I attempted to load update the database (where Rigelian would nornally scan for ~3 minutes and give me the last scan date and time- it is now blank)

I’m cautiously optimistic- MPDluxe appears to work. I’ll test it out over the next few days.

I deleted and reinstalled Rigelian. No change :frowning2:

Mconnect and 8Player:
Both cut off at exactly the same spot after 25 folders:

I have been in contact with Berrie Kremers, the developer. He’s been very responsive.

Thanks all!

My vote is a corrupted microSD. The poly has zero tolerance for any microSD flaws. I had a microSD that worked well on everything but the poly. Albums kept randomly disappearing or plain not showing after being deleted and restored. The only fix was a new microSD.

I ran a check disk on my card and found no errors. After doing so, Rigelian appeared to work as it indexed and displayed my music. But after that one success it did not and I’ve been unable to make it work (even after doing another check disk of the card). I also tried a different card and that didn’t work.

I have had success with MPDluxe (thankfully one app that works!!)

Q for @jarnopp (as you said that app works for you)- when I add new content to the card and insert it in the Poly, I tap “start update” on the bottom right of the screen, and the directory count increases on the bottom left.

The app doesn’t appear to indicate when it has completed scanning the card. I have been going back to see when the content stops increasing and then I know that it’s done. Is there a more efficient way to know that MPDluxe is done scanning the card? Thanks!

Sorry, I can’t say I’m an SD expert user. I had many apps (liked glider) back in the early days. But since I purchased Roon a few years ago and now with Arc, I very rarely use the SD card (longer flights without WiFi mainly). I found MPDluxe will show all the folders and tracks and went back and forth with Ed at Chord when the problem first started. They know it’s AIFF related, and say it will be fixed at some point, but it’s “difficult” (not sure why). I think most apps are cutting off at some value, like 1024 tracks or something.

Has anyone had problems when playing PGGB'd wav files? When I try to jump into certain time point in track using M.A.L.P. android app (when playing tracks from SD card), I get MPD error "not seekable". Original FLAC files work just fine. I still haven't figured out what is the last common denominator of this (format, sample rate, bit rate, something else).
