Cayin N7: A Voyager of Unexplored Frontier

Nope, as said previously on iPhone (at least for me) pressing any of the volume button of the phone when using HibyCast app has for direct effect to make the N7 volume jump to iPhone‘s own volume level.

You can see the problem here, the volume goes from 30 to 90 with only 1 click on the volume button of the phone :

This is also happened with me using Android
Quite dangerous

We have discussed the volume control problem with HiBy and urged them to rectify the volume control problem promptly. Several options were discussed but these involved low-level programming, it will take a while before they can develop the coding and conduct all the testing, a lot longer than other applications or UI-based bug fixing. Will keep everyone informed when we have a solution.

It seems you’re right @FooFighter

44.1 kHz on Qobuz app but 48 kHz showing on top of N7’s screen :

@Andykong any target date for a fix?
Is it only coincidence or is the same software team developing firmware for Hiby and Cayin as the same bug is there too on RS8?

We have repeated the problem in our lab and registered the bug officially. We need to find out the root cause of the discrepancy in sampling frequency.

We are confident that this will be fixed promptly, but sorry, there is no target date for a fix. I hope the process is as simple as that.

I can't comment on the bug-fix process of DAP from another manufacturer.

Thx Andy
Seems very likely the same bug is present in both firmwares of Cayin and Hiby

You can use either or.

Cayin Music Player is lightweight version of HiBy Music Player and both share identical decoding capability including local MQA playback. The included HiBy Music Player is the Pro Edition and features HiBy's awesome MSEB and Tidal interface.

Also with HiBy Music, you can also transfer music via WiFi to your N7 – either internal or external storage.

Question for other owners (I've already asked Andy about this): Has anyone managed to use their N7 as a USB DAC? I can't even get any computer or device to see the N7, using any the numerous cables or set-ups I have here. Resetting the system and re-installing firmware has made no difference. I suspect my unit may be faulty.

You might need to install driver into your PC.

I just did with Tidal App on Windows, I didn't have to install anything:

When you put the USB cable, have you selected the correct mode on the Cayin N7 ? It should be Audio In :

From this menu :

Tap for more options and then select Audio In :

No issues with using N7 as a USB DAC on my MBP M1 Pro 14 and MBP M1 MAX 16 using Apple Music and Tidal. Using Caldigit T4/USB 4 cable from N7 to MBP – USB setting to data / no charging on N7.

There's still a Tidal (desktop and mobile app) still has a hiccup where it takes a split second to unfold MQA – sometimes there's glitch or no sound. They need to kill off MQA faster.
