Please can you expand on that a little bit?
Is it more musical, organic, fun, technical etc?
Thanks!!
It's definitely a more natural sounding tuning, but a warm analogue one. I wouldn't call the tuning "fun", but "right".
It sounds like there is nothing recreating the signal path to your ears. You just pressed play from the master, either tape (a little hiss) or pro-tools. There is nothing between you and the music. The detail jumps your brain filled in with standard delta/sigma dacs to make an accurate portrayal of a performance, just isn't necessary anymore, and you can kind of relax. Your brain doesn't have to work as hard.

I have always had a problem with upper mids (harsh) and the digital filtering done. In all cases it sounds like a washy band that wound through the music with just this unnatural aesthetic, note decays and certain overtones are just not right, and I either had to EQ it down or buy components with it tuned out. I have no issue with this on discreet r2r. I can leave the upper mids alone and actually enjoy a natural tuned device that sounds proper and in the correct tonality the instruments live in.
"Where have you been all my life" is the phrase that sums up my current experience.

Only problem is going back to your old gear. When you do, your brain has learned to be lazy now (not in a bad way), and you can hear the digital harshness due to the recreation of the signal and the jumps in clarity you needed to make need to be relearned again. A/B'd r2r vs. delta/sigma is just an unfair fight in this regard. You need a good hour to get back the love of your previous fav dap. Maybe that's why there are so many vehement fans of r2r once converted? Going back is literally a hard thing to do.

Any updates on battery life of the R01 in real-life listening environments using both balanced and single-ended? Is it decent enough? Anything over around 7 hours of listening to FLAC/Hi-Res at a reasonably loud volume level would be good for me.

At least 7 hours. Didn't measure it, but seems pretty good to me. This is from balanced all on FLAC at 24/96 & 24.192.

I get great battery life and super quick charge times. I want to say 10-11 hrs would be the total w/ mixed qobuz stream and local flac/alac up to 24-bit/192. I don't have anything higher i can speak to. All balanced so far. It feels like it charges in 1.5 hrs, but that can't be right, its fast though on QC3. I charge at 20% and stop it at 90% and that alone gives me ~6.5-7 hrs.

More details in a confined station ?
Actually updated it with a new shelf! Added LP6 in the mix…

Will provide a review while I have it, then it needs to go back. It’s serving as an excellent prelude to my future LP player 😜

Charge at 20% and stop it at 90%, this is a very good practise to maintain your lithium battery in premium condition. It's OK to run the battery to very low occasionally, but try to keep this 20/90 as your regular practise if possible,

Hi fellas.. i'd like to ask for some advice.. if i got myself a cayin n6ii with A01 and E02, plus an R01 board soon.. are the T01 and E01 boards still unique and special enough to get too, or if they would be too redundant already?
Why wouldn't one want the whole collection? A02 would be tough to find though.

I would just keep them. The Cayin N6ii is becoming a legendary DAP and a 'full house' of motherboards might be a very desirable position to be in. I have the A01 and E01. I have an R01 on order and will probably add the T01 to my collection if I can find one used in the UK. I rarely see individual boards for sale on the used selling sites and I think you are right in a sense: the 'older' boards might be tough to sell on their own.

I have all the boards and for my preferred signature/use case, I would probably be happy with just the E02, A02 and R01 boards unless you need a non-R2R SE output, in which case I'd add the E01, T01 or A01 to the list depending on your preferred flavor of chip.
