*and by "trouble with your device" I mean trouble with spotify, as it seems based on the circumstances to be a problem with Spotify, not the DAP.

The iFi IEM Match actually works great with sensitive earphones and the Cayin N5ii.

I noticed a considerable improvement in soundstage and resolution/space when using my Empire Ears Bravado + high sensitivity mode + low gain on my Cayin N5ii.

it seem exfat fixed it. previously in Spotify, got 128gb on exfat and 64gb on fat32. then when i select the 64gb as storage, both SD cards are highlighted. now, with 64gb on exFat, only the 64gb is highlighted. ill continue testing it. ill update here if anything weird happens. thanks to the active support team

Looks like you're onto something! Just tried a FAT32 card with Spotify files on it. Rebooting with Spotify running, files are gone! I'll try exFAT next.

The thing is, it also happens when I download Spotify music to the internal memory. I've had to re-download all my Spotify music a dozen times, but haven't found a pattern.

FWIW with my other android DAP (the one I'm selling to switch to Cayin due to lack of support from the developers, thanks Andy) if you leave Spotify running when you power down the device or it goes into sleep mode then all the offline content is lost. It still takes up space on the TF card, but is not recognized by Spotify. If you continue to have trouble with your device, try that and see if it helps. It certainly is a pain to have to remember to actually shut off spotify every time, but if it saves a little headache it's not that hard a habit to get in to.

How do I close Spotify? Just keep pushing the circle/back button until it closes?

here are some facts i have gathered so far for spotify users.
1. use exFat for TF filesystem
2. choose TF1 as storage in the app itself and not the TF2
3. spotify is very sensitive in using TF cards. removing/ changing it alone will reset spotify.
4. re-scanning your whole library will reset spotify

Thank you for sharing your experience with Spotify offline tricks. We have located some details regarding the Spotify Offline mode, maybe experienced Spotify users can clarify these for us:

Spotify offline mode allows users to sync their playlists and albums to their devices but unlike other music streaming services, you don’t actually buy the songs in your playlist, instead, syncing your device with Spotify gives you temporary offline access to your saved playlists and songs even when you’re offline. Spotify doesn’t sync individual tracks but rather syncs your playlists, even playlists you have subscribed to. You can sync a maximum of 3,333 songs per playlist per device, just keep in mind that Spotify only allows you to sync three devices at a time, once you sync a fourth device it automatically deletes the synced content on your first device. You can stay offline for up to 30 days but don’t forget to connect your devices to the internet before then or risk syncing everything all over again.

Maybe this explained (3) in wakokokoyz's list: when you unmount a TF card, Spotify will assume you want to synchronize this device from the playlist. and even when you reload your TF card again, the "downloaded" song will never show up again because the songs are "theoretically" not downloaded by synchronized to the TF card only. If this is the case, maybe we should stick with Internal Memory instead of using TF card to synchronize your Spotify playlist.

If Spotify unsynchronize the N5ii when they detect a new TF card is inserted, that will definitely become a big problem too.

So exFAT doesn't make a different, which is the way it should be.

To be honest, this looks like Spotify has disconnected the device from the playlist subscription, instead of N5ii removed (or lost) the downloaded file. Maybe someone can present their case to Spotify and seek their explanation, and most important, find out if there anyway to re-enable the playlist synchronization instead of create a new synchronization (i.e., download again)?

I take a quick look on the link you provided and was amazed by the complains and feedbacks, the thread started on 2016 but some users said they had this problem since 2014. If the complaints are all legitimate, that'll imply the download songs will definitely be disappeared when you log out from the app for whatever reason, intentionally or accidentally.

Now can someone give this a try: right below the "Third Party Application" menu item there is a "Smart Cleaning", this is like a built-in task killer that will terminate all third party applications in one touch. Can someone confirm that the "Smart Cleaning" will only terminate the Spotify but it won't log you out?

it wont log out. i dont see it closing as well. if u left it in settings, then snart clean, it will go back to settings when u open it again. if it closes it should return to home screen.

regarding my spotify, its already one day and still has not reset yet. i deleted all spotify folders from android>data (internal and TF2) except for TF1. internal always returns. copied cache folder to TF1 also. i dont know if it helped. after listening i make sure to long press home until homescreen. then shutdown.

In that case, you should be able to use internal storage for Spotify offline, theoretically this is more stable then TF card.

i had always used the internal storage without any problem, until it went almost full, only with spotify files, that's why i wanted to try TF as storage.
