A small hint "How to make N5ii aptX friendly and re-enjoy DAP's experience":

Unfortunately, DSD files are not playable with this thing for unknown reason. It says "The file type is not supported".
Where to buy (Aliexpress): https://goo.gl/XMPEyN

UPD: DSD files are playable after the device is rebooted with USB-dongle in. Not a surprise :-)

you can ignore it or just use Edge, when you download from Chrome, it won't let you save it

love the new firmware, it seems standby battery life is much improved

I use Chrome on my N5ii and it saved the download file directly on the unit. Updated fine.

I've installed the update and have tested the player for 6 hours. I'm happy to report that the idle turn off function is now working perfectly, and power management is vastly improved. At idle, running one app with the screen off and Rocket Player on pause I lost 1% per hour. I have now turned off Rocket Player and will see how much power drops per hour with only presumably the custom Hiby app running in the background. Even if it still loses 1% per hour that would be a one hundred percent improvement because I was losing 2% per hour previously. Thank you @Andykong

Thank you for testing the firmware fior us. We had done a lot of testing before we release the firmware, but field test with large user samples is always the way to go.

You definitely know this problem very well because you alerted us about this issue back in October and we have discussed this in detail. For the benefit of newcomers, this problem was caused by the GCM service, or GCM_CONN_ALARM in Google service specifically. Google Cloud Messaging (commonly referred to as GCM) is a mobile notification service developed by Google that enables third-party application developers to send notification data or information from developer-run servers to applications that target the Google Android Operating System, unfortunately it has been reported that the GCM_CONN_ALARM will trigger a wakelock, stop the Android device from going into sleep or idle and drain the battery. For those who want to find out more from the original discussion, please refer to here.

Originally I intend to explain this problem and alert you and @Slater91 as soon as the new firmware is released, unfortunately I was struck by Influenza since last Thursday so endup I have to let Silvia to conduct the firmware update announcement and followup.

Looks like the issue I raised a while ago still isn't fixed in 3.6: turning on the screen doesn't return to the app I was using most recently. This is really aggravating as every time I turn on my screen to work Spotify I have to do added acrobatics to get to the app.

You have request this feature, but we didn't promise to change our current practise as you suggested. This is NOT A BUG but a user preference. It makes sense to you but didn't necessarily become the best option to everyone. so I am sorry to tell you that the feature is not going to happen in N5ii or N5iiS.

That's because they use HTTP instead of HTTPS. There is no security risk involved.

Trying to download the new firmware upgrade from Cayin's website (http://en.cayin.cn/download/show?id=13564) and Chrome's warning red page says:

Can someone test this out for me?

In our Firmware announcement page, we have offered two download hyperlinks, the one on top will download the file from our website, and the one on bottom will download the firmware package from a Google Drive link. If you run into harmful program alert when you try to download the firmware form our website, will the alert remain the same when you download the firmware package through the Google Drive link?

GDrive works without any problem.

The problem is that the harmful program alert occurs before the download page (and its links) are displayed. So the download links are not in cause but it rather looks like it's the whole page because if you don't force your browser to display it despite the alert message, you won't be able to see anything on the page.

Hope this helps.

I'm really following all that user feedback in the thread, Cayin's answers about double SD issues (dated Jan 2018), their "appreciation" for being patient, all that answers just like "thank you for being patient and look at this topic" where it's been since Jan 2018 abt double SD cards, for example. Almost a year, folks. I truly/really wanna believe that the DAP becomes an amazing piece of thing. But. There are plenty/plenty of issues that are answered like it's never gonna be fixed of whatever. Come'****in'on! Picking a double-SD-card-DAP with bugs having 2 SDs is a miracle? No. Ok. Having a "so good sounding DAP as Pro's for this price" is ok? Okay. You can DO better. We all in this topi chose ya. But you are not takin' enough actions to make your customers happy. Don't tell me what it takes to fix a little software issue — I'm a ****in' developer with an exp o more than 18 years. This is not how things have to be in 2018-'19. You're an amazing company in terms of hardware and ppl already believe in ya, that's why I bought your DAP. But you're missing a point. I really want you become great again. You're cool. But. You suck in terms of UI/UX/performance. Just make your choice. We'll help ya.

We have continued the discussion in multiple occasions and reviewed the problem in more details, please check out here, here and here.

We didn't eliminated the overloading problem completely, that is a hardware limitation, but the player will not crash because of that.

I'm adding here proof that the harmful program alert also occurs when trying to reach the documentation download page :

Cayin_Harmful_Error2.jpg

So it actually seem to occur on any of Cayin's site download pages.

Guys, no offence. But your official website is... it seems u don't care much either abt user requests/feedback and your official website that's the face of the company nowadays.

What the heck is that? Warranty — `123134`? is it a joke?

`1 2 3`... is it a pager for blind people with links or just for fun?

Perfect, perfect for hi-tech company with products for hundreds of dollars. Damn, hire somebody for 1000$ to fix all that crap. Seriously. Again, no offence, but you're just like the worst website from any I've seen who sells audio. Learn from competitors.

Ah the good ol' "it's a feature, not a bug" -defense.

I find it hard to believe there are people who would like the DAP to open to a different app than what they left it with. If that's the case, why not just have an option to have the DAP behave differently than every smartphone in existence for those people. Or to define an app the DAP always returns to (native, Spotify, Tidal, etc.). There are many ways to do this, and satisfy everyone.

I just can't fathom how you can even try to argue this. You (Cayin) clearly have no concept with what a good UX is, and that combined with the utter misjudgment of the hardware capabilities of the CPU and memory, and their mismatch with Android requirements and poor understanding of Android development, has resulted in a duck of a DAP.

I just wished the reviewers here and elsewhere would have given a fair warning so I could have avoided spending hundreds on this POS.
