Interesting to hear how that first cable compares to the ALO audio Super Litz.

I might have a unique sounding Solaris as I don't mind doing some cable rolling. The sound description I added on my previous post is in comparison to the stock litz cable. That cable is just collecting dust at the moment. Not a bad cable per se but. Just know you are not getting the absolute best sonically from the stock alo litz cable.

It is certainly a good cable and there is really no need to upgrade what you get in the package but cable rolling is strictly for guys that do not leave well enough alone. Let me put it that way.

Plus I needed to get a working cable in balanced. I am all about value especially when it comes to my cables so this is what I found. Happy to share the results.

The alternative is buying a boutique cable that cost half as much as the Solaris. I have a general rule of thumb. Can't be buying cables that cost more than earphones. Can't do it. Makes no sense.

Interesting to hear how that first cable compares to the ALO audio Super Litz.

For me, i have Alo Ref8 SE, so I just plug it, with ref8, the low freq get more thicker, rumble is easy to catch, and Mid Freq & sub Mid more stand out compare to Super litz. In short, i never use super litz on my Solaris, and plug to my Polaris as my travel option / back up.

i have Alo Copper cable from POLARIS... Want to try it but I cant get that ref8 MMCX plug off...
Hmmm afraid to damage, I take to the dealer to let them do it...

My go to song to check rumble...

@Dsnuts Thanks to pop in, i probably will buy that Copper SPC cable wiith 2.5mm balanced in the future... Btw that crystal Copper SPC is not microphonic right ?

I have a dedicated thread of cables just like the ones mentioned.https://www.head-fi.org/threads/low-end-cheap-generic-otherwise-bang-for-buck-cable-thread.891911/ Just because these are chi fi cables. Don't mean the cables are sub par in quality. I have personally found a lot of cables that are crazy great for the price.

I am willing to bet these cables will surprise a lot of guys that try them out.

Nice thread , already sight seeing there.... u are offering options for people.... If only these cable have demo unit to be tested.... it will be a paradise place for me to visit

no. 037, KZ SPC mmcx 3.5 SE, previously I used it for my Polaris over the ALO Copper, due to Prefer Sound signature.... Wide Soundstage, and reduce the bass punch, better clarity. Was suggested by a friend. Now, a bit oxide in some part. but Sound wise not change

Interesting. I have read somewhere that the ALO Audio Ref8 cable takes bass away from the Solaris!

Is really depend on the source (DAP/AMP/File size)... If the music have bass, Solaris with ref8 can deliver it in detail like Vega, IMO...

If you prefer bass,IMO, I believe Copper / high pure copper will be your go to... but again, if there are some one in your area have some thing that you like, better talk to him to demo test with the gear you have... Believe your ear... I dont like boomy Bass, Hard punch, but I like it detail and good seperation with the sub...

Super litz is good cable, quite a cable porn for me...

Some more songs I'm particularly liking on the Solaris (for @Currawong and other guys who were asking the question what people were enjoying) - been in a more mellow mood today:

Rock Candy Funk Party - Gothic Orleans and Drunk On Bourbon on Bourbon Street

Some jazz/funk/rock from a Joe Bonamassa side project - the first track highlights the imaging of the Solaris for me, with tom tom drum hits playing left and right of centre in the intro to create an almost pendulum effect when you are listening. Guitar tone on the second track is also excellent and really emotive.

Joe Bonamassa - The Valley Runs Low (acoustic live version from the Live At Carnegie Hall album)

Great acoustic rendition of one of my favourite Bonamassa tracks, with a great blend of bongos, string backing and Joe's acoustic guitar, with a great old school gospel sounding chorus. Just a really euphoric song for me. The acoustic guitar solo is excellent too.

Ann Wilson - I Am The Highway
Whoever thinks the Solaris is lacking with female vocals should listen to this track (as always, just my opinion etc etc)

Liking the new Tremonti album now I've got used to it, too - think it would benefit from a more traditionally V-shaped IEM given the almost thrash-esque guitar riffs, so not a 100% ideal pairing for me, though.

What's everyone else listening to?

Easy! I found them too big and uncomfortable ( uncomfortable like a few CA IEM's), they lacked deep bass extension that I liked. In fact they lacked bass all over to me. I expected the bass closer to that of the Atlas but more refined, but alas, no! Overall I felt they were too neutral and boring to me. That's probably ok for jazz listeners, but for edm etc. they do not perform
like that of the EE range of hybrids ( Nemesis etc.) which are an exciting listen!

I have a lot of experience with edm genres and have been listening since back in the early trance days of the 2000s. I really love the solaris and handles my collection very well, but in a more balanced approach. I have legend x and out of all iems I've ever listened to, the legend wins in the bass department. Lovely iem and is perfect for many edm genres. My favorite being tech house, deep house, and techno.

However, listening to trance especially modern trance, the overly compressed kick has way too much pumping and the legend x bass becomes too much and I find it annoying. That's where I really enjoy the solaris because it plays trance wonderfully and that compressed kick is still there, but its not in your face and allows me to focus on the synth melody instead.

I have the rhapsodio 2pin to mmcx adapter coming in a few weeks, I'll be able to try ares ii, janus d and thor ii. Much excited to try with thor ii 8 wire. Hopefully it works otherwise I'll be selling that one, haven't had luck with it yet.

Having auditioned Thor II (8w) with a couple of other IEMs, this is high on my list of upgrade cable for the Solaris, no doubt it will have great synergy... the soundstage is going to be quite a treat :D

Janus D would certainly be interesting as well from the reviews I have read... not sure about the Ares II I like the upper mids the way they are with stock.

Some impression and comparison soon.
That IER-Z1R Cable... really nice.. is it thicker than super Litz ???

really nice collections, with Spotify premium, the 3D imaging on SOLARIS is awesome.
ex. Matt Lange - Testarossa; EDM with nice Sound stage and Detail.
The postal Service - Such great height

Using Notebook (spotify) - Topping NX4 DSD - SOLARIS ;
Imbalance when using low volume in NX4, so minimum must crank volume knob in 9 o'clock..
bass boost on....
a bit HISS but still OK.
Bright DAC/AMP

Thanks to @bukumurah for the suggestion

Some impression I posted in Z1R thread.

Okay some quick impression here. Z1R has more bass presence than Solaris with subbass focus. The bass is really good but it not a lightning quick bombastic bass like I have expect. Quantity is also noticably less than something like Legend X that I also compared with. Mid is more forward than Solaris and a bit warmer and It does female vocal really well in my opinion. Solaris has a bit brighter treble and sparkle. I think Z1R has maybe a little wider soundstage? Either way the difference in soundstage is not that noticable out of the DMP-1Z. Solaris is a bit more airy with more headroom. Z1R is deeper.

Overall I think Z1R has a bit darker tone with more bass (although I do think the bass itself is quite similar in tone). Vocal also sound a bit more natural while Solaris is more energetic with more treble presence/ sound brighter in tone and also sound clearer. Either way I think they sound more alike than different. Both are musical sounding.

It should be noted that while both have the DMP-1Z as a source, Z1R is connected with 4.4 balanced output while Solaris is with 3.5 unbalanced which should give some advantage to Z1R in sound quality.

@fokta It a bit thicker than Super litz I think?
