Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

I got a silly one as I’m newer to vintage gear.

If I get an amp recapped and all fixed up is there a suggested maintenance time where I should bring it into a shop or am I good for a bit?
It depends upon how good the tech was who serviced it the first time was. For me, the first thing I typically hear that goes wrong are scratchy pots: static when making adjustments on volume, balance, tone controls. That is usually a very inexpensive fix, usually a good cleaning and Deoxit on the pots.

My Sansui 881 just returned from the shop for that very issue, as well as fixing a couple of the lights it set me back 100 bucks and I had last had it in the shop seven years prior. Still using OG caps.

Like @Monsterzero said, if the tech was good you should be too. If the pots get scratchy DeoxIt is your friend. There is a DeoxIt howto over on audiokarma.org and should be able to do it yourself.

Yes they do. I just saw an ad for one and the dude was aking over $2300.00! It is a very nice sounding receiver, but I still prefer the Sansui over it. The MAC has this thick, heavy handed solid bass to it that makes headphones just rumble on your head. It's warmer than the 881 too, which is no easy feat.

The 881 has a more balanced sound to it vs. the 4100, but still with killer bass and a nice warm vintage 1970s sound, but the midrange is where I feel the 881 pulls away.
Of course both units have tone control, and in the case of the 4100, an adjustable loudness button as well, so with some fiddling around I can get the two to sound more alike if thats what I was trying for. My comments are based upon all tone controls dead center and no use of the loudness function.

Time waits for no one, just picked up a Bryston B60B, build date 2002 so now outside their 20 year warranty but I guess now considered vintage, originally released in 98 ($1495) and updated SST output devices in 2001, and except for cosmetics, unchanged until finally being discontinued in 2018 ($3995).
This is my 2nd B60B, 1st was sold after getting Bryston's BHA1, currently only using the headphone connection but sounds fine with the Sennheiser HD660S2 and AKG K872s. Could use a bit more gain on some recordings, otherwise no complaints, noise free, very involving and similar performnce to the other SS on hand, the Bryston BHA1 and Sennheiser HDVD800.

Have 2 on hand and satisfied with the sound.... how does it compare with other streamers could not say but feel nothing wanting. What attracted me to the CXN was the multiple connectivity, front panel interface, the on screen display and access to mutiple live radio stations. : )

The thread is dedicated to receivers and integrated that are vintage but it just occurred that most of my equipment is going that way. 😲
My Dynaudio 25s and Contour Center are now over 20 years as is my Rega Planar P25.......

Not to mention at the back the Bryston 2BLP powering the Dynaudio 42W surrounds.......all vintage. :astonished:

Well as I said "time waits for no one"...mind you it all still sounds and performs pretty good.

When I first got into headphones a few years ago I used a Yamaha AX-630. Being about thirty years old I figured some electronic parts were drifting out of spec so I got an Emotiva BasX A-100 as my first headphone amp. Then I learned about Schiit products. A number of them have rounded out my system.

A good vintage receiver in-specs can compete with many modern headphone amps when driving high impedance headphones.
Of all of my amps(list in signature) only the Violectric v550 pro clearly outclasses receivers in technical prowess, but the musicality still goes to receivers.

the Yam stack is growing. Having a lot of fun with the EQ, recapping gave it a boost. I think the dac matches the aesthetic close enough.

Well... I got a mint Pioneer Sx737 a month ago, and i like the warm sound and rounded bass. It looks beautiful and sounds great, but it has to be recapped asap.

And also got a Pioneer Sa-8500 today; looks terrific, and definitely the sound is on another level; amazing clarity, a more controlled bass, the separation and soundstage are remarkable, the phono section is great and its's build like a tank.
