anyone have any thoughts before i blow 700 dollars on these things? Currently have XB500, Beyer DT770 80ohm. I have a FiiO E7 as a DAC and iBasso Toucan PB1 for an amp. Thinking of getting the E9 as well. I am a mad basshead who can never get enough. Just wanna know anything i should consider before buying the ES10 and XB1000

Get the ES10 and XB700 instead and save a bit of money.

 
Or get the ES10 and keep the XB500.

So ES10 definitely a go then. The XB1000 should have much wider soundstage then ES10, XB500 and XB700 right?
 
I feel I cant properly power my DT770, but i find XB500's bass sounds much more fun (and in your face) than the DT770. Supposedly because of less soundstage (bass feels far away in the DT770?). Will the XB1000 sound be an upgrade to the DT770?
 
I have a feeling that XB1000 might sound just like the DT770 (bass wont vibrate your face like XB500) and possibly XB700 will have a great balance of in your face bass and soundstage. What do you think? and thanks for your advice, really appreciate it, this wold of headfi makes your wallet cry.

Let me get this straight, you want bass that rattles your head? So you want quantity of low bass? Or do you want quality (with quantity) of low bass?
 
From one basshead to another, Ultrasone 900 Pro + your Toucan is a better quality bass. I like to hear other frequencies with the awesome bass. Maybe you do too?
 
Get whatever headphones you want to try from Amazon (make sure seller is Amazon, not a store under Amazon). They have a no-questions asked web-based RMA system.  You just click and print, then return for a full refund (even shipping). Enjoy any headphone you can find for a month and determine which one you like best and keep it. Otherwise, send it back and get another one. Try your sonys. Try the ultrasones. You're not stuck with them if you go this route.

While the XB1000 looks impressive with it's comically large ear pillows it fails to deliver on the bass for me. Yes it does have a much wider soundstage than its little brothers, but it just isn't as in your face with bass and certainly doesn't vibrate your skull. I haven't heard the DT770 Pro 80ohm (only the Premium 32ohm) so I can't say how that compares to the XB1000, but if you are after bass like I was the XB1000 may leave you wanting more.
 
I'm sure you could buy one and sell it easily without a big loss if you weren't satisfied.

Yeah I know of Amazon and their awesome return policy. I don't try to use it because I am paranoid and have heard you do it too much they will eventually ban you (not a profitable customer?). Sony XB1000 aren't available in the US, but I might try those Ultrasones. I also heard that the Ultrasone 750 is basshead worthy. I think i was able to tweak my XB500 for mass quantity with EQ, but I don't like it too much. So quality with quantity seems good. Might try them at a Guitar Center.
Do you find the Ultrasones being able to rattle your head vs DT770/80ohm? and how is the soundstage? I am a very disappointed with the DT770 after all the great reviews I've read (i think XB1000 goes the same route i guess).
 
Perhaps FiiO E9 will give me what I want with the DT770.

How do you find the ES10 bass? in your face like XB500? I had the ES7 and they were so godly with bass EQ, i could EQ the bass very high and it wouldn't distort, just hit you with some nice clear and solid bass to head (benefit of the clamp?). I am hoping the ES10 (being an upgrade to the ES7) can provide something like this or even better.

you should buy ES10, Pro900, Edition 8, XB1000, XB700, XB500, XB 300, DT880 250, DT880 600, DT 990 250, DT 990 600 and take a big fat crap on all of them.

As you see, i made this thread to get advice so I won't be disappointed after spending so much money (hoping that I wont be craving more headphones after putting decent money into it).

ES10 works well with bass boosting I think. Not that it isn't punchy enough as it is, but I've had it on boost setting II on the Headstage Arrow and it doesn't distort. There is definitely enough "solid bass" to be had.

The ES10s are a nice pair of headphones but I wouldn't really consider them a basshead's headphone. Especially not if your frame of reference are the XB500s. I would actually recommend you look into the Ultrasone Pro 900s or Hifi 780s over the ES10s.

XB1000 seems to have very wide soundstage indeed but like usual is the case, very wide stage usually comes with a laid-back presentation which XB1000 has been described as which DT770 also fits in. XB500 is a very forward sounding headphone. If you are searching for that "in-your-face" presentation then XB1000 isn't what you're looking for. XB700 has only very slightly wider soundstage than XB500 but it also a bit less forward sounding than XB500 as well. 
 
You could put Audio Technica ATH-PRO700MK2 on your list though as it seems to have that "forward" kind of bass presentation (probably not quite as much as XB500 but you'll only find very few low quality alternatives to XB500 in this regard anyway) and the strength of it is similar to XB500 (or tiny bit less).

Hmm, when i bought the ES7 the reviews would mention good amounts of bass but no one mentioned basshead headphone. I had Rockbox'd Clip+ and FiiO E3 and with the ES7 volume full blast (i am aware it isnt healthy, but for those rock out moments) I would get amazing bass response, subwoofer status. I absolutely loved it, but I got them stolen with my iPad. ES7 is discontinued now and was really hoping ES10 would be the upgrade. I would say the ES7 were more bassier than my XB500, clear bass and quantity. Perhaps its the on ear design and uncomfortable clamp that make the bass so impactful?

I also have the M50 which look very much like the PRO700MK2, I assume its over ear? I might consider these but I didn't like the M50s compare to ES7

The ES10 has a decent amount of bass as standard. Obviously not as much as the XB500, but that sounds far muddier in comparison. However, like I mentioned I think the ES10 has great EQ'ing/bass boosting potential. I've only briefly heard my bro's ES7 and the ES10 is definitely an upgrade.
