I really hope there's no sound difference between metal and wood, but there probably is :( That wood just looks so ugly...

I've asked all the sellers on Taobao, whether it be the official BGVP account or resellers, and all of them have said theres no sound difference between the regular and wood versions. I've personally tried to A/B both versions and honestly can't really tell any difference between the two.

All in all, for its price, I think its a great purchase. I liked it more than the Mangird Tea which I've returned after trying them out.

I'm not sure if they have the new pinkish blue color out yet for overseas markets but its a little more expensive on Taobao than the regular greenish blue wood version. My pair came really pink with barely any blue tint so long story short, the GF has a new set of IEM's and I'm currently waiting for my custom DM8's

I think that the BGVP DM8 is a pretty good IEM.

The bass (for a BA only IEM) is well done. The bass is present but never overpowering. However if you are a basshead, the bass in the BGVP DM8 won't satisfy you as it lacks in both quantity and in 'oomph'.
Again the bass is well done, but it's nowhere near a quality DD bass.

As for the mids, the vocals aren't forward, but they are still present, i like how both male & female vocals sound good on the DM8. Music seperation again, is well done.
The upper-mid range might sound harsh to some or with certain genres. ( Might sound harsh around 2-3k ) But luckily the DM8 responds well to EQ.

As for the highs, for the most part the highs are pretty clean and detailed. ( Some might find a peak at around 7-8k )
I'd have to say though, that the soundstage on the BGVP DM8 isn't really there. And due to this, there is a lack of layering which leads to a lack 'airness". The result is that the DM8 sounds more "in your face".

To sum it up, i'd say the BGVP DM8 is a warm-neutral IEM.
It's easy to drive, responds well to EQ, is very very comfortable in the ear ( even more so for being a 8BA set ) and isolates very well.
Even though i do consider the DM8 a good IEM, for me it lacks the "WOW" factor. I can listen to it, and can tell right away that it's a well done IEM. But yeah, just no "WOW" factor for me. But considering the price, i could easily recommend the DM8. It does punch above it's price point.

So, I've never heard a BGVP. Does this DM8 thingy roughly sound like a KZ AS10/etc, or Tin T2/3/4..? Or it's just leagues away and incomparable? Perhaps like the treble on FH3? Is the bass on something at the $100 mark, like Starfield, better?

I've tried some older KZ models, as well as having previously owned the Tin T2.
While my oppinion might sound harsh, i think those IEMs are utterly crap. ( Really Low-fi iems, but again, they are cheap )

The BGVP DM8 is a HUGE step up from those. The diffrence is really day and night.
But it also depends on what you're looking for, for example the DM8 is BA only, so no DD bass.

My mic has a compensation value loaded to mimic the average adult’s ear canal volume as per Jude’s video. Can’t afford the Brüel & Kjær 5128 so this will do for now lol.
I haven’t had a chance to listen to the DM8 much yet. I will definitely write my impression soon.

About the stock DM8 cable. . . Is this literally the bulkiest IEM cable ever, or what? My god, this cannot be a good idea.

Are the pink tips "S01" or "E01"?

possible. I felt the weight of the cable entire time I was listening to it yesterday. If we include the aftermarket cables, ISN AG8, Penon Totem and CEMA Tianwaitian are bulkier.

The cable does got some weight to it but luckily is flexible. Alo SXC 8 is just a little bulkier and it's stiff and terrible with microphonics. Those are not a issues with the DM8 thankfully.
