No, you don't have to go tubes. Do the cable connection mod instead. It brings some portion of deserved pleasure with the SS amps. I am using an SS amp and so far it surpassed the Cary SLI-80 and, by a bigger margin, the Leben CS300XS. Compared directly, so no memory issues apply.

The more comments that I read about tube vs. SS for the T1, the more I question myself about buying the Concerto. I think a Concerto would benefit my DX1000 since it doesn't work great with my W3 being low impedance with the OTL WA3. I've been using DX1000 with iPod Classic>LO>SR-71A which works better than WA3.

Dane, how do you like the T1 with the WA3?

I don't have a WA3, but I think the T1 is much better via the WA2 than via the WA6.  But the WA3 is like a scaled down WA2...

As a huge T1 fan that I am (I know, some might be surprised by this

), had I heard the Burson/T1 combo the very first time I ever heard the T1s, I would have returned them ASAP. The synergy for me was that off. For the money the Concerto (SS amp) or MAD Ear+HD (tube amp) or Woo6 (tube amp) make the T1s one of the 2 or 3 very best headphones I've ever heard.

My experiences with tubes match your experiences over SS amps as well with the T1s.

Could you elaborate a litle about this?

What did you find off?

Don't think I'll be buying a new amp anytime soon, but I do want some new headphones.
I've heard that the T1 is less fatiguing and more meaty than the HD800, which is pretty much what I'm looking for.

I am also curious of a comparison between the WA3, WA6 and WA2.

Any comments on brightness/listening-fatigue would be appreciated :)

What cable connection mod are talking about/ can you explain or direct me to a post about it?
I listened to the T1 and Cary SLI-80 at CanJam and the WA5-LE/T1 smokes the Cary/T1 hands down.

Rob,

The only tube amp that I've heard my T1 with is my WA3. I'd love to hear the WA2 but unless I buy one I'll probably never experience that. The good news is that there's nothing more or less that I want from my T1 & WA3 combo. I have a digital PEQ and GEQ but the only time I use them is to boost low bass with older/"Classic" rock where I've always wanted to with speakers.  I can't complain about any brightness or peeks from my T1 as some have. All I hear is fantastic mids/treble detail. Of course if the recording quality is crap, the T1 will let you know.

Yeah, since you have the WA3 already, I'm not sure I would buy a Concerto for the T1. The WA3 probably will sound as good or better with the T1.

What were the main differences between the Cary and the Woo?

I found the T1/Burson combo to make the T1s sound a bit bland with a lack of attack and clarity. As well, the treble peak seemed to happen higher and at a lower frequency (like 6-7kHz ish). The sound stage imaging was fine, but the balance just seemed wrong.

With the Concerto, there is a big improvement and they sound quite neutral with ZERO peaky treble...and even that much better on my MAD tube amp.

Concerto seems interesting. Anybody compared the Meier Concerto to WA3 (or any other Woo-WA's) - or perhaps to the Grace m902.

I have the latter and have a problem with fatigue (cymbals, bright violins, trumpets etc)
